Chapter 4
The sun shone straight through the window of Linda and Ian's bedroom. It's brightness could blind someone if they looked directly at it - It was morning. As Linda woke up, the thoughts of the book and her new home pushed firmly to the back of her mind, she saw the sun shining down. It was like a spotlight, directly on her bed. It made Linda feel safe, a sudden rush of safety rushed through her stomach.
Why am i feeling safe? Why shouldn't you be?. Linda had never been a believer of Fortune tellers or people that could see the future, but she always had
some sort of warning when something was coming. The light faded away as the sun went behind a cloud. Linda's rush of safety left her, leaving her concerned and worried.
It was a Sunday, and Linda had lots of things to do. She had to visit her Mother, who was living just around the corner. She had to drop off to the supermarket to collect some things for the new house as well. As Linda sat alone in her glistening silent kitchen she looked towards to doorway and saw -
the kids!. No doubt about it, Linda would be taking the kids with her to the supermarket.
"Right boys, lets get dressed to go to the supermarket" she said trying to sound enthusiastic. As Linda grabbed her coat and car keys, she looked out towards the back door - it was open. Linda hadn't heard it open, she hadn't seen anyone leave either. As she walked towards the door, she grabbed the handle. A cold chill ran through Linda, this made her shiver. At first Linda thought that maybe the cold wind made her shiver - it wasn't. As she was about to shut the door a voice came behind her
"Don't shut that!". Linda turned and saw her husband, Ian stood behind her smiling.
"I'm fencing off the back garden, remember?" Linda thought back to late last night - he was right. Linda gave her husband a big hug - she felt safe again. Linda gave him a kiss and headed outside with the kids and got into the car.
What is with me?! Why am i so nervous like this?. Linda knew the answer...but she refused to tell her mind why.
Ian had heard the car pull away. He was so happy with the new home that he wanted to make things just right. He began laying down some plants which his Dad had given him -
they may be bad, but he'll kill me if i don't use them. Ian got down to work, time passed so quickly. He was convinced that Linda and the kids would be back at 2:00pm, it was now 1:15pm. Ian awaited to hear the sound of screaming kids and a stressed out wife at the front door -
not back yet!. As Ian sat in the garden for a moment - he heard it! He heard a child laughing from inside the house. He rushed inside to greet the family, as he reached to front door there was nothing there. Ian walked to the window and looked outside, Linda's car was not back yet. Ian looked around, he heard a child laughing, he wasn't going crazy. Ian moved slowly around the hallway, as he looked towards the doorway to the living room, he saw...well...what did he see? Ian wiped his eye's and fixed his gaze on the ghostly little girl standing in the living room doorway. Her eye's blue and her body transparent. Ian went numb, he didn't know whether to run and hide or whether to speak.
"You've been a bad man" said the child. Ian looked at it carefully, it's body...transparent. It did just speak, he was sure of it. Ian walked foward slowly, the little girl smiled at him.
"What did you say?" said Ian, trembling as he said it. The little girl head moved to the left, it was looking at something. As Ian followed it's direction outside, he saw Linda's car pull up on the driveway. Ian felt a sigh of relief rush through him. He looked back at the child -
she was gone!
