I have to agree with most and say Orwell, insanely good author. I am also gonna say JK Rowling, I know its an obvious choice but she persuaded a whole generation of children to read. And her story of Harry Potter is more adult than people thing, its quite closely based on the holocaust. Her stories are very easy to read and very enjoyable, while orwell is a difficult read but leaves you with thoughts...
