Default 10pm yesterday evening

Well it got to 10pm yesterday evening and I wanted to watch BB!! But I had to make do with Graham Norton instead.

It was really weird. I felt lost without BB to watch.

But at least I got a copy of heat magazine this morning to look back on BB3. I can't believe it's all over!!

When I watched BBLB on Sunday, at the end of the program we were shown a Bests Bits of the Nine weeks, I was so surprised how much I had liked BB3 after all

Well how do you think I feel? For the second day running we have been sent home from work because the air-conditioning is malfunctioning and we have fixed windows. This never happened until this week!

It is perfect "Kate in her bikini sunbathing on E4" weather, and it's all finished!! Now THAT is tragic!

Tragic indeed Oldgit!

Much worse than a lady of a similar age to yourself going weak at the knees from holding the hand of a small 29 year old skin-head,
or from a glimpse of a certain Mr C in his light blue boxers.

As 'Arold Steptoe used to say.........

'You DIR-TY old man!

All that spare time could be gainfully employed by weeding the borders, sorting out the greenhouse, airing the big slipper, checking through the Saga catalogue........

You're right Oldgit! That IS sad.

How come you get to be sent home from work? Does the temperature have to be a certain level??

(kaphc is just wondering whether the same could happen for her.....!)

Yes it was very hot in my building, around 33C, but also we cannot open the windows because they are fixed, and the building was designed with built-in air conditioning. So even if you have fans or even if the temperature is not so hot, you are continually breathing the same air, the Carbon Dioxide level goes up and it can be quite dangerous.

When we came in yesterday, the air conditioning was off, so our Union people approached the management and agreed a cut-off time to get it working, which they did. However, it wasn't able to clean up the backlog of stale air and we got sent home mid afternoon.

Today only one of two motors was working, and that was struggling as a result, and struggling motors take huge amounts of electricity. As we are dependent on an internal computer network, it was felt that if the one motor was forced to cope, along with our computer system and fans around the office, we could overload our electricity supply.

Three requirements to get sent home in extreme heat:

1 - Trade Union
2 - Good shop steward or Health and Safety Officer

or

3 - Managers who put staff above business needs when the situation calls for it.

You need 1+2 or 3, but it's better if you have all three, and in my place we do.

Sounds like you work for a good place.

Sadly I can't see it happening for our office then, as our windows open (even though we don't have air-conditioning). Also we don't have a union as we are only a small office of about 70 people.

It reminds me of when I was a kid - our school (in Derbyshire) got closed down on numerous days when it was cold and the boiler broke or when it snowed.

Never mind, I can still dream ....!!
