The highlight shows don't do well at all on this day and as a result for BB8 there was no big brother on Saturdays. However this could be attributed to the uneventful nature of Friday's events and the entertainment shows on the other channels

However, live entertainment shows such as Britian's Got Talent, Strictly Come Dancing and X Factor seem to thrive on this day.

Since the launch shows are live and cannot be done on their ideal day (Sunday) due to planning obligations with Hetsmere council could one work on a Saturday?

I know it could never bring in the ratings that those shows do but could it equal a healthy rating?

Or like the highlight shows that air on this day would it fail in the ratings?

I think if promoted well, put on during one of the weeks when none of ITV and BBC's biggest ratings pullers are on, it could do a bit better than the launch shows have recently.

Nothing on the scale of the other big Saturday night shows but maybe 6 million.

Well BGT finishes end of May and X Factor and I believe strictly start in the latter half of August so none of the major shows would be on.

Other entertainment shows do well because it is family viewing, Big Brother wouldn't do well because it is aimed at a different audience, an audience which alot of is out on a Saturday night
I think it would struggle to get above 4.5million if the launch was on a Saturday but then again it could attract new or old viewers looking for entertainment on that Saturday when ITV and BBC1 give up until the autumn
I don't think the launch would work well enough to justify moving it to a Saturday. Sunday is the day which is perfect for the show to launch

As I said, Sunday CANNOT be used because the planning permission doesn't allow events on Sundays. The only way it would be possible would be without a crowd, which while workable for evictions, would never work for the launch.

Also, as I said, any such launch would be well promoted to ensure that those who are BB's target audience and still willing to watch the show are tuned in.

Also on the subject of family / adult viewing the launch show is on a delay these days so swearing can be censored. The kids in the families that tune in probably wouldn't watch past the launch show, but their parents might.

Even if they decide not to, the boost given by launching to the Saturday night family crowd would boost the series average and therefore help the show's case for being taken seriously by it's broadcaster if Channel 4 decide to keep it on.

Those things are on practically every week if the launch is made event tv with hype, advertising and changes. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't effect it too much. Both shows are available via iplayer, which is easier to use and access than 4OD.

There's gonna be long running shows as competition on any day during primetime, that's unavoidable.

BB launch wouldnt work well on Saturday. The target audience of 16-32, a large majority of them (16-25) or something similar will be out on Saturday nights, the reason why the other shows do well like BGT, DOI, SCD ect.... is because its a family reality programme, they are on before the watershed and watched by children and parents as there is no swearing.

No, what a poor idea!

Big Brother cannot be compared to The X Factor, BGT or Strictly because the latter 3 are family shows. They are 3G shows as some people call them, which attracts the entire family to the screens.

BB is a show aimed mainly at 16-34s. It's at 9pm, when most people in this agre group are out. That is evident in the poor ratings Saturday highlights shows have got.

Even by promoting the launch to death, it would not work on a Saturday. The best launch night is something like Thursday when most people in this age group are at home. Fridays aren't too bad either, as these days are associated with BB events.

Saturday is a no go area. I can't believe anyone could even suggest this. You're basically killing the series on launch night by doing this. Pathetic suggestion

Simple as. Channel 4 are stupid, but not that dumb. It would never happen, as it would probably turn out to be a disaster.

A live, exciting, entertainment launch show scheduled during a week when none of the big hitters are on, not a normal episode is a different matter and whilst the saturday highlights performance should be taken into the account it should not be the only measure.

I'm not saying it's necessarily a good idea, I'm just weighing up the pros and cons.

I still don't think it would be as disasterous as you say, and I follow ratings and ratings trends quite closely. It would be rather risky trying a Saturday launch and it may cause a dent in figures if tried and so therefore I wouldn't personally, if in charge, schedule it there, however I don't think it would be as big a disaster as you make out and is worth discussing.

I know that highlights shows are different from launch shows. But even so, a launch show which has been highly advertised would not rate as well on a Saturday compared to a Thursday for example.

The last BB summer launch got around 5.5m if I remember correctly, on a Thursday. Now if that had been on a Saturday, it would have got less. No question about it.

It would be absolutely absurd if Channel 4 did such a thing, because as I said earlier Saturday's are a day when loads of people in the core age range go out and traditionally don't watch tv post 9pm.

It is odd how other shows do brilliantly on Saturdays and Big Brother doesn't - it's not even as if we can the BBC and ITV have got their big guns out because usually during the summer Saturday nights are pretty dire all round.

Oh I agree (though live tasks in terms of big brother usually means just showing the live feed of a very short normal task).

I'm just offering it up for debate since there's sod all to discuss, as I told President, I'm not suggesting it.

Back to President, the launch shows are only an hour and 15 minutes, what if they launched it at 8 and had it finished by 9:15.

Plus I'm pretty sure a lot of people at the lower end of that age bracket (16-25 ish) watch X Factor. I'm 19 and a lot of my female friends watch it.
