English Lit would bode you well with all of those choices, and would also open MANY doors of opportunity for what you might wish to do in the future. It's a reputable degree, too - so you won't risk spending 3 years doing what could be looked on by employers as a "doss".

Hmm, I'm doing Literature and Language now, but am finding it really hard with my current teacher (Lets just say she is abit Skatty ).

I suppose it would be a good choice, but I'm scared I'm really not going to enjoy it. Would English be good in a Marketting kind of Job?

Also, I take it you only do two courses during year one?

English Lit will be hard, but I reckon you'll reek the benefits after the 3 years at Uni - cos it's that good of a degree compared to some of the ones you listed.
But you would have to enjoy at least to a certain extent, or you mightn't last 3 years, haha!

At uni, you really only take ONE subject. In the first year, you can do 1/2 "minors", but they do not count towards anything at all, you get nothing from them. They're only there incase you change your mind about what you want to major in.

Before choosing English as a Degree... listen to the song 'What do you do with a BA in English'

I dunno what courses you can take but look at some Media courses, some of my friends are doing 'Media Performance' which is half acting and half behind the camera, another one is doing Film and TV management or something, Edge Hill work close to the BBC and have good contacts, have a look at that!

I have heard Edge Hill has an amazing media facility. Have a look around though...

Edge Hill are good if you want to get "on the scene", as Fom suggests. Just be wary, if you do decide to go into Marketing, the degree from there won't put you in good stead so you're limited.

If you genuinely want to get into the production or media business though - Edge Hill is your best bet.

I'm so CONFUSED.
I would like to work in the production of Radio and I think I have skills suited to Marketing, but if its a competitive job and I dont get it... I'm left with a 'doss out' degree :cries:

Tbh Radio Production is quite a dossy degree, on that list Politics is the most 'respected' in terms of employers. I'd go for what Lauren's saying, I can't really add anything to it.

Yeah, thats what I mean. If I don't get anywhere I'm left in dept with a unrespected Degree. Would it be possible to work in a field similar to that without a Degree in that area?

IM SO CONFUSEDDDDDDd

Mate just follow your heart, not your head. Just think whatever you go into you will be doing for a long time, so enjoy it. If I was you I would go for what you enjoy most not the thing that will get you most jobs, if you are driven for something you will get a job eventually.

You can definitely work in radio production with an English Lit degree, probably even moreso than just a radio degree, providing you can show skills specific to the area.

Edit: Fom is correct though, don't do a degree if you really won't enjoy it for 3 whole years, it'll destroy your soul.

I'm still confused.

With Marketing I would be able to imply my imagination, and I suppose still apply my brain more than I would in any kind of Radio Production.

Radio Production would I suppose gain me the exact skills I need, but its not really seen as a good degree.

English Lit - Rounded degree, usefull for all stuff. But I may fail at it judging my how I'm now going at AS.

How would English be valued in the Marketing field?

Thanks Fom and Lauren.

Do you reckon if I contacted say a Local Radio I could say have a few weeks of work experience, or would it just end up being like School Work experience? I've looked and I dont think I would be open to many Marketing kind of W.E at my age/no knowledge.

Radio stations are infamous for allowing people in for work experience for them. Whatever degree choice you choose, do radio work experience throughout it!

Yeah, you'll deffo be allowed in at least one radio station if you email a few. You could end up doing crappy jobs like making tea and cataloguing records etc - but it's all good to put on a CV/Personal statement for Uni.

Plus, when you do get to Uni - most Uni's have their own radio station so you can get involved in that and maybe be a DJ at one.
