(Story from Ananova)
Big Brother's Spencer told to lose weight Big Brother's Spencer says modelling agency Select has told him he is too heavy to be a model. The former housemate has been instructed to stop drinking beer and aim to make his face thinner. But he says he doesn't want to lose weight. He told Heat magazine: "I said 'You know what I looked like before you signed me up, I was on TV constantly for four weeks.' "I'm not going on a diet because I don't want to lose weight. I'm never going to look like Alex or the skinny blokes in pictures on the walls of the office and if that means I can't be a model then so be it." - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I'm sure I read this in another Spencer interview, but I can't remember which one now. ![]() Good for Spencer! I fail to understand the model agencies' blinkered view that all models should look like stick insects, when the vast majority of the general public don't! Alex appeared to be naturally very lean - even Kate had difficulty squeezing into his jeans. ![]() |

One of the reasons that i didnt like alex's looks and prefered
spencer's is because it felt like alex's head was too big for his body (in both ways ![]() many people on this forum who will disagree with me. Sure Spencer might have been a little overweight but so are a great number of people and its time that they are appreciated. ![]() |

Blimey!!!!! I'm sure this won't affect Spencer too much but imagine how damaging this could be to young boys and girls reading it. Spencer's trousers used to hang off him in the house as it was. He looks just about perfect to me

I agree Chilled bootz - How bad would a person who is even slightly over weight feel on the news that Spencer is seen as too fat?
I'm very happy he's having none of it - I always knew I loved that boy!! (And not just because he's gorgeous!) I don't mean to get all serious and things, but I'm going to (so if you can't be bothered reading, and I don't blame you!, move to the bottom!) - the percentage of anorexic males is increasing due to repeated 'correct' body image, and things like this can't help that - the media has serious responsibilities which it often disregards - I don't solely blame the media for anorexia, thats unfair, but it strongly influences many misconceptions of how beautiful people should look, and if we all should look like Alex or Kate Moss (first example into my head) then i'm very worried. Whether they like it or not, the media should be more careful - i read some article the other day which began "Curvy Tara Palmer Tomkinson...." Curvy??? Where the hell are the curves?? I for one (and it's not something I'm particularily proud of) started to crash diet as soon as I read the "Jade's a pig", "Kill the fat pig!" articles in the papers (it coincided with me getting some photos back, and I looked bigger than the photos of Jade in the papers) and was devastated at the thought that people would be calling me a pig if i ever ventured onto national television. A few days later I realised how ridiculous I was being, and (because I really do want to lose weight) started on a sensible diet, taking some exercise, and I already feel much better, after a few weeks. You might think there is little point in this, I'm just trying to point out that the "he's to fat..." preconceptions we (society) have can be seriously damaging to someone who is very insecure already, and it doesn't take a greta deal to make someone paranoid - for god's sake, what is our world coming to?? |

From my limited understanding of the fashion industry, anorexia is considered a good career move.
![]() ![]() It is also a line bought into by those who idolise these people, especially the super-waifs. The diet industry is quite a money spinner. I once remember "That's Life" reviewing them twice. To make it more scientific they added a dumy diet as a control. The first time round it was the Custard Cream diet and the next time round it was the carrot diet. The people that lost the most were actually on the control dummy diets, and hoards of people wrote in to ask for details of the carrot diet - a diet made up as a control and totally ficticious. And they say I am weird. |

Good on Spencer for telling them to shove it. If anything he needs more meat on him, he was always going on about how skinny his legs were. He he lost more weight what would he walk on.
