well, britney has said she doe's not care where her albums chart, she said all she cares about are what her fans think.

a Ballad would do great IF its the right kind of ballad,

but i think an uptempo song will catch on better, a ballad would be good as a 2nd single, i just hope she starts singing live, not for every song but just to shut the critics up i mean it does not bother me at all.

Britney might say she doesn't care where she charts, but the truth is, all artists do. Mariah Carey always said she only did it for the fans, but when Glitter flopped, she had an emotional breakdown.

A ballad is a bad choice for a lead single, 2nd or 3rd single from the album, yes please.

We haven't had a full release in the UK of a ballad since late 2003 with Everytime.

I don't think all artists care about how they chart, a lot of artists make music for the fans and because they love creating music. But Britney isn't one of them, most likely.

and Mariah's meltdown wasn't due to Glitter flopping really :/ As far as I can recall, she was having a lot of trouble with her label and her dad got ill. She doesn't strike me as the a person so shallow to have a meltdown if a record flops.

I read an interview with her about her breakdown and she said the main reason was because of her record and movie being poorly received, as she was so un-used to flopping, and exhaustian from promoting a movie and an album constantly.

Britney's also referenced in the Simon Curtis song 'Diablo' with the song line -
"oh baby baby does she take a piece of lime, for the drink that imma buy her, oh wait this song isn't mine" lmfao.
He referenced her in one of his olderr songs 'Detox' which has loads of her song titles and the main hook is a play on 'Me Against The Music'
