I think she was referring to the restrictions her religion put on her (although I may be wrong) and I took her laugh to be directed at how ludicrous the no swimming rule is.

yeah she was talkig about how she can't swim, not that she didn't know how to do it, and that she wasn't allowed to sunbathe either coz she was married and it's not allowed
