Marcus is very interested in how he is appearing to the viewing public. You can give him credit for that. Its actually an advantage in this game. He is constantly aware its a game show being watched.
Anyways,
He seemed to be extremely focused on clues or hints on who was doing the best and most popular based on the family/friends statements.

Two HMs were given especially enthusiastic 'approvals' with the biggest smiles and those were Charlie and Lisa.

I believe Marcus noticed that and noticed they did not get 'warnings' either and that told him who was most popular.
Hours later Marcus only true friend is Charlie (huh?)
and,
Now he wants to hug Lisa and acknowledges her as one of the only consistent and real people.

and in typical Marcus fashion - whatever he is doing that he is ashamed of he then accuses everyone else of doing.
Captain Bumlicker rides again.
