Sports shop bosses have apologised after printing a Hillsborough slur on a Manchester United shirt.
A sick fan tricked an assistant at a Sports Direct store into printing “96 – not enough’’. ![]() That is the number of Liverpool fans who perished in the 1989 FA Cup semi-final crush. Colm Jackson, 22, posted a photo of his shirt, which also bears the letters YSB – You Scouse Bastards – on Facebook and boasted he bought it in Manchester. Insulted Liverpool fans threatened to boycott the chain’s five Merseyside branches. Hillsborough family support group chairman Margaret Aspinall, whose 18-year-old son James died in the tragedy, said: “Sports Direct are worse than the guy who wanted to put it on his shirt. “Printing that message is like inciting trouble. It’s an absolute disgrace.’’ Last night a spokesman for Sports Direct, owned by Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley, 46, said: “Sports Direct is very apologetic for this spiteful and abusive shirt.’’ Jackson added: “It was a really stupid thing to do.” Source Disgusting. |

This is a horrible story, how could the assistant not know what it meant? Why didn't they check - the slogan itself seems odd, so they should've been wary. Terrible.

How horrible, Still I think it's strong to blame the shop. I wouldn't have got the reference if I worked there, The man who ordered it on the other hand is a disturbed individual.

Edit: Oh but I do agree with you, the guy who got it printed is undoubtedly the worst. |

I wouldnt blame the person working there at all, before i read the article i didnt even realise it was a man utd shirt and thought "YSB" was for Yossi bennayoun.
But yeh i know a few people who work in sports shops that do the printing that don't even watch football, as for knowing about it, until this year i didnt know about it. If i was in the shop i would possibly question what the stuff meant and im sure he would have a valid believable story lined up to cover himself.. Fully blame the fan that asked for it printed.. terrible ![]() |

Ben seriously? Until this year?
Wow, maybe I over-estimated peoples knowledge of Hillsborough! I genuinely thought everyone knew, or would at least know reference to it!! |

I know I'm not a huge sports fan but I had never heard of this until a few months back too.
Anyway the guy who requested it is just disrespectful and sick on so many levels. |
