Default Lockerbie bomber freed from jail

I for one applaud the Scottish legal system. The man is going to die ffs. Showing compassion for a dying man whatever he may or may not have done is being the bigger man in my eyes and can only have a positive affect!

That doesn't excuse the fact that America is damn angry. It's a slap in the face, but I guess you can see it with two sides.

I can see why theyre angry but, its not like hes free and got his life ahead of him, hes going to die so let him die in his own country I say. Such an act will strengthen relations with Libya. The USA's answer to everything is to wield their power over everyone and stick their bloody noses in to everyones business, theyre bound to piss people off with that attitude

Strengthen relations? It seems to be having the opposite effect.

Libya seem to be relishing in this though and are making a big deal out of it. It's all being done for effect.

Theyve made a song and dance about it which is dumb but I guess they just see him as an innocent man wrongly convicted etc. Your right they ought to have been more diplomatic, Its pissed the Americans off, but if they were more diplomatic themselves then there wouldnt be such a situation in the first place

"Lord Mandelson has dismissed a suggestion the release of Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset al Megrahi is linked to a trade deal, describing it as "offensive"."

""It's not only completely wrong to make such a suggestion it's also quite offensive," Lord Mandelson said."

I can't see this situation dying down anytime soon.

I think he should have been left to rot in jail. He showed no compassion when he blew up a plane full of innocent people. Terminal cancer is too good for terrorists..

There is quite some debate on if he was actually responsible and not just a scapegoat isnt there?

I think the amount of time they took to release Ronnie Biggs was definitely ridiculous and shows what happens in high profile cases that may embarrass the authorities.

Whether be even commited the crime or not, hes being payed the ultimate price. I see no wrong hin him being released, hes dying afterall.

On another thing - I think he may even be innocent. Some Scottish MP's and even people around the world think he is innocent and didnt actually commit the crime. He was only arrested because of a T-Shirt he bought which was then later found in the suitcase of the explosive on the plane. Its hardly 100% concrete.

The U.S. are up in arms, because they dont have any 'compassion' in their justice system - some states still have the death penalty, and I'm sure that if he were over there, he'd of been given that.

I reckon they should put him in a plane and kick him out with no parachute. It would be the same effect as what he did to god knows how many people.

I'd make an ace prime minister with my drastic punishments

Oh for sure, he'd be dead right now if he'd been tried there. and yeh there is some question over his trial, which I can well believe if the Americans had anything to do with obtaining the evidence! The world needs to show understanding and compassion. The Americans are sadly lacking in that area and it will only gain them more enemies!

Yeh but look at some of the people that commit these terrible acts. They are groomed from an early age and brainwashed into thinking what they do is right. The US dont help the situation thay only make it worse. Look at the Mumbai bombers, they were so naieve and so obviousley brainwashed its scary!

Yeah, I'm a clown as to why a legal system would set a convicted mass murderer free.

Sorry if I don't have the time to look up every detail on the Scottish Legal System.

Fall back, idiot.
