I've spoken to people aged 18-21 that have waited YEARS to be legally able to audition for the show. And when they've gone to auditions they have met tons of people who have randomly just gone to auditions because they walked passed and saw it and thought "lets do it for a joke" while there are genuinely interested people who have waited years to be old enough.
The more people that audition, the less chance they have of getting on. In certain rounds they will only put in 3people or 5people out of a group of 10-20.
By the time the random auditionee walks out of the auditions because the jokes over and goes home, the person who wanted it badly has been told they haven't made it any further.
