Davina McCall hired extra security after receiving death threats, reports say.

According to The Mirror, emails were sent to the Big Brother studios threatening to kill the presenter live on air.

A source said: "She was really, really terrified. On the show you wouldn't have realised anything was wrong, but behind the scenes she was very scared."

Police were alerted and extra security was provided, while McCall hired a private detective to track down the offender.

The detective is thought to have traced the emails to a 19-year-old living near Manchester.

"She was very relieved when he was found," the insider revealed. "It was a very worrying time for everyone."

A Big Brother spokesman said: "We always have the appropriate security in place."

McCall's representatives declined to comment.
