Anyone with average observation skills who's gone on a day-trip to a zoo can tell you that's not a gorilla fur. Gorilla fur is shorter and kinda bristly, sometimes with silver on the back, but no long white tassels.

Surely BB has to take a lot of responsibilty if the coat proved to be from gorilla fur.Aren't BB suppose to do important checks at what the contestants bring into the house?

Yeah, but the fur inspection officer was on his tea break when Pete checked in.

If I was the gambling type, I'd put a pretty heavy bet on the coat being nylon.

Merged the thread...

I think the police raiding the house for this... it smacks of an 'eye-catching initiative' that you sometimes read about.

They could have easily waited till the show was over and dealt with it in private, given that the fur is probably real but not illegal.

Now on GMTV Jodie Marsh has just spoken about this. Not very well I might add, although I do agree that if it is real he should not be wearing it!

Jodie Marsh appears in public every day smeared with several inches of Nutella. I find that far more grotesque than a coat which may not even be made of fur at all.

That's exactly what I thought James - although I have my doubts that it is real fur at all.

I'm amazed Galloway DOES NOT know that trading in Gorilla or endangered species is ILLEGAL -As he is an MP & "clever asstute man" surely should know? His joking over lunch & other remarks made by him show he's not that clever - or hates the competition from Gorilla's?

Talking about it over lunch the HM's were saying how ridiculous it all was.A couple of good cracks came out though as they imagined the police surrounding the wardrobe to arrest the coat

"come out with your sleeves rolled up"

"you have the right to remain silent"

haha.

So it is official Pete's coat is not made of Gorilla - it is made from Colobus monkeys. This has now been referred to the CPS to see if a prosecution will carry on as the fur from these monkeys is also NOT allowed to be traded in this country.

The fact remains it wa a gift so he wouldn't know. I can't see him challenging any decisions made on the coat but I can't see him being fined or anything since he didn't personally buy it. Showing he came on bb with it shows he wasn't aware of any laws etc.

It was on the front cover of today's Star. I had a quick look at the article when I was in the local shop earlier. They quoted someone from a wildlife park, who was supposedly identifying the coat for the Police. He did indeed confirm that it wasn't gorilla, but only said that it was possibly/probably colobus monkey (as Fangz pointed out when this first became a talking point). He said that they're not classed as an endangered species, so the chances are that there will be no further action taken.

It was experts at the Natural History museum that identified it. Apparently it has been illegal to import this fur since 1975, however the coat is supposed to be 50 years old.

Although Pete might have received it abroad and brought it into the UK.
