Default Chantelle Vs Faria Vs \'Celebs\'

Believe it or not Faria was also a non-celeb. She doesnt have the celebrity persona, and didnt even think she was a celebrity herself when she went into the Big Brother house..... Yet alot of people are labelling Chantelle 'the' 'non-celeb'.

As for the celebrities being Z list or not very well known, I think that's harsh:

Ordinary Boys were quite popular already so that's Preston.

Jodie Marsh was a 'Page 3' model and known up and down the country.

Michael Barrymore though struggling in the UK justnow, is certainly not Z list.

Maggot's in Goldie Looking Chain, very popular here in the UK.

George Galloway is a very well known Politician.

Rula Lenska isnt Z list, she's been in Doctor Who, Footballers Wives and Minder to name just a few popular TV series. A well respected actress over here at least.

Dennis is a very well known basketball player. If you like that sort of thing...apparently alot of people do, not me though.

Traci's been in Playboy, and Baywatch, and has worldwide fame.

Dead or Alive's Pete Burns is popular due to his worldwide famous 80's hit 'You Spin Me Right Round'.

I think this year's introduction of a non celebrity is a one off. I don't think it'll be happening again soon, but I dont mind, it makes it more interesting. Some people love to hate it, others just love it, like me!

Few here had heard of his band, and their apparent popularity in no way even suggests that anyone knew who he was.

Slightly popular, at best. And again, nobody would've made the connection unless we'd been told.

She was in three episodes of Minder, in 1982, 1985 and 1989. Hardly a highpoint of her career, or one that any of the CBB audience are likely to recognise her from, either. A little research always helps.

Well known to people that like basketball, and Americans. That's a tiny fraction of the UK population, at best.

Strangely enough, not everyone reads pornographic magazines or watches cheesy US tv shows.

Dead Or Alive have had seven UK hit singles (not counting past or future re-issues).

Charlotte, is twelve hit singles not enough for you? I disagree with just about everything you said there and maintain my views.

Seven, and no, they had another 2 or 3 singles out in the early 1990s that deserved to chart, too. That's very pleasing news indeed.

woops. Seven. thats enough for me to consider them very well known.

I think the celebrities in this years CBB were good ones, whether or not theyre known to CBB viewers, doesnt really matter to me personally or the general British public. ...who would easily recognise a playboy girl or a popular basketball player. Therefore I think they are worthy celebrities. BTW I've never bought Playboy myself. I wouldnt be ashamed if I had, but.. I know through TV that Traci has appeared in the magazine. You don't need to watch Baywatch religiously to recognise her from that either.

Rula is well known, great career or not, she's a famous actress of her time.

I merely drew attention to the apparent 'one-hit-wonder' suggestion.

Yes of course, all Playboy centrefolds and basketball players would be 'easily recognised' by the average woman or man in the street. And I live in a giant pumpkin, with a lovely family of chocolate mice next door.

Rula is best remembered for advertising shampoo.

Not to mention the fact that DOA are very big in Japan, and at the height of their career, Michael Jackson had to alter his tour so as not to clash with theirs, due to their popularity.

Now that's fame!

I don't believe the Z-list tag is harsh by any means. Its just the cold harsh reality

Preston, Rula and Rodman were nobodies to most. Traci may have been remembered from that B-production TV series baywatch that was axed a decade ago.

Barrymore and Gallaway are infamous if anything. In Barrymores case hes a 80's TV star who's now remembered for all the wrong reasons.

As for Pete Burns he may have some kind of ****** cult following but to most he's a one hit wonder from the 80's..

Goldie lookin chain are a rather ridiculus novalty rap group who had a rather silly one hit wonder also....

I don't like Chantelle she's very annoying... I cannot deny she's beautiful but I don't like her she gets on my nerves... sorry brothers and sisters but that's how I see it

I agree Charlotte, especially about Preston and Maggot. I've never heard of Ordinary Boys and after hearing their two-tone, derivative "hit" song, Boys will be Boys, I'll be quite happy never to hear of them again.

I'd heard of Goldie Lookign Chain but couldn't have picked any of them out in a lineup.

Rula apparently works mostly in theatre these days which doesn't lend itself to instant recognition amongst the general public.

Never heard of Traci (never was a big Baywatch fan or Playboy buyer!). The rest I was aware of, especially Barrymore and Galloway but as someone else said more through their infamy rather than their celebrity status.

Still they have given us a decent celeb BB, probably the best CBB as I was never overly fond of the other ones.

Never agree too much with someone that leaves typos intact long enough for them to be quoted.

I'd heard of The Ordinary Boys (On My Radio!), but as you've said above, This AREN'T Two Tone. And the same for Goldie Lookin Chain. I've seen glimpses of Baywatch, many years ago, in the company of friends who enjoyed the occasional jazz cigarette and often used the show for the unintentional belly laughs it provided. But I still wouldn't have picked her out from a crowd. I'd also heard of Dennis, but he's not my idea of a celebrity, no matter how big his profile may be elsewhere in the world.

I am afraid it is you Charlotte who have not done your research. Rula has been in many acting roles including the classic 'Rock Follies' in the 70's.

You may remember her for advertising shampoo, but many of us have great memories of Rula and were glad to see her again.

Oh dear, that was a rather rash quotation, wasn't it? Had you read the thread properly, you would've realised that I posted a link to her entire acting career almost nine hours ago. Sorry about the bonfire and the bubble, though - maybe next time?

In the post I made at 4.20am, the word 'research' is in blue because it's a hyperlink.

You posted; "I am afraid it is you Charlotte who have not done your research" half an hour ago. I replied to say that you were mistaken, and directed you to the post which makes that pretty obvious. Do you really think the average CBB viewer can remember a tv series from 28 years ago? She's been in Eastenders and One Foot In The Grave far more recently, yet nobody remembers her from those, either. It's shampoo all the way, I'm afraid.

Well I am not aware that there are statistics for the average age group of BB but I do know that I remember Rula from Rock Follies, as well as many other apearances and not from an advert.

Do you always speak for others?

Ah, so only "trannies" can like Pete then? Not the mature, well thought out reply that I'd expect from a "psychiatrist."

There's really no need to get your knickers in a knot, just because you've misunderstood the thread, now is there? The fact is that the vast majority of BB's audience are under thirty. So it's blatantly obvious that they aren't going to remember a tv show from 28 years ago. It's merely factual information, not a state secret.

I don't really think it would have made the show any better if they had put A-listers in the house.

I mean if you had Robbie Williams and David Beckham in the house there would be a novelty value for a couple of days, then we'd find out that big-name celebs are as ordinary as the rest of us.
