Capcom trims 'Lost Planet 2' on Xbox 360
Thursday, February 18 2010, 15:55 GMT

By Andrew Laughlin, Technology Reporter

Capcom has revealed that it was forced to make significant cuts to the Xbox 360 version of Lost Planet 2 due to the smaller disc size.

According to Kotaku, Lost Planet 2 producer Jun Takeuchi said that the DVD dics used in Microsoft's console required a portion of the game to be trimmed.

In comparison, the larger capacity Blu-ray discs used in Sony's PS3 meant that the cuts were not required.

He said the edited content on Xbox 360 was "way too much" and that dealing with the problem was "more difficult than anything" in the development.

"This time, truly, the content that was cut was significant," he added. "At the end, we had to wrestle with disc space."

Takeuchi said that the development team was almost in tears while having to cut swathes of the game to fit with the available DVD disc space.

However, he gave hope to Xbox 360 gamers with the suggestion that the trimmed content could still be made available "at a later date" as a downloadable package.

Lost Planet 2 will be released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in May.
How stupid, They couldn't stretch out for an extra disc for the Xbox version? It's just another way to squeeze more money out of the Xbox gamers at a later date. DLC's is really starting to become a poison in gaming as loads of companies are holding back content on purpose to charge players later it's ridiculous. I hope the Xbox Version bombs now since Capcom's becoming worse and worse for DLC abuse every day.

Capcom is the worst for DLC, they could have put Versus mode in RE5 to begin with, but they decided to make us pay £5 for it

and in Street Fighter 4 they charged for outfits already written into the game. It should be illegal really, anything written onto the game should not be able to be sold seperately. There's only really a few companies that do it right.

Capcom are money grabbing assholes, the RE5 gold version proves that more than anything, its pretty much saying "screw the people who went out and bought this game a year ago, they should have waited" they should take a leaf out of EA's/Bioware's book (SHOCK! HORROR!)

In Mass Effect 2, people who buy the original copy of the game (not preowned) get membership the 'Cerberus network' where so far there are 3 free pieces of DLC - Now thats how it should be done

To be fair to RE5, the new content has been brought out as DLC and it's all brand new and not already coded in. I do like the ideas behind the Cerberus network though. I do think DLC has the potential to be brilliant but it's always undermined by underhand business tactics.

Fair enough with the new content, but Versus mode was pathetic

Bioware do DLC very well (free armour in ME2 if you buy a new copy of Dragon Age Origins) and stuff like that, its good to see some gaming companies still think about their audience and not just Ca$h

I do agree, Valve's a good company for DLC although M$ makes them charge for it on the Xbox.

I'm not one for DLC either, I'll only get it in rare cases if I really like the game and if I think the pack is worth it.
