I'm currently looking for a car, I'm still learning but I want my own to start to practice privately.
I found this car on autotrader- http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...43he?logcode=p 03 Corsa, 1.2 litre, 3 door, 67,000 milage which I love the look of but is £2,389 much for a first car? I've been told so many times that £1500 should be the limit cost for a first car but I don't want to buy a really cheap car and then have it eating up all my money with a lot of troubles and repair work with it. But I've been told with a more expensive first car the insurance will be sky high, argh.. buying a car is so stressful :P I'm thinking of viewing this car today or during this week and I don't know much about cars at all so if anyone can help and give advice it'll be appreciated!

Its completely up to you, there is no right and wrong. Personally I wouldn't have anything older than 2004 and I think you can get the same car but newer for about £2k
But make sure you get insurance quotes before you actually buy it, and if you know a mechanic or anything get them to have a look at it before you commit to buy |

As a girl your insurance will never be that high.
My first car was a £7000 2006 3 door Astra, 1.8 litre engine, the insurance was ridiculous for the first year. but its all good now. And ive not crashed.. well other than something minor. The insurance would be very low on that as its only a 1.2. My cousin got a 02 clio 1.2 and the insurance was very cheap.

Depends where you live though, my first policy was only £700 on a 05 plate Focus ST (1.9l) and that was just as I'd turned 17 with no pass plus ... mainly because of the area I lived in but some of my mates have been with much cheaper cars and their policies have been about £2000

And if you buy a car in the summer. Remember to check the heating..
No one ever checks the heating of a car in the summer. and when it gets to winter they put it on and its buggered. Service mot and tax should be checked.. And make sure you dont see any signs of an accident ..

Most of them that are the same car are 1950 - 1995
I reckon you could get another for 1800 ish. maybe 1900. That car is a bit expensive for what it is.

Thanks for the replies guys! I went to see it with dad but it had gone- lucky I guess judging from what you have all said (should be cheaper than advertised).
Looked through the local paper just now and I found the same car (in colour) but it's a 2001 1.7 diesel Corsa with 3 doors and the MOT is due at the end of May.. and that's for £1,495. Any good do you think? Dad said he'd prefer me to get a Diesel. It's all so confusing to me, haha! Oh and thanks for that link for the pointers- printing it out now And my grandmother used to have that yellow car, she loved it cause she could find it easily in car parks :P

LOL - my sister-in-law has a neon green coloured Peugeot and her excuse is that it's easy to find in supermarket car parks! Are you sure I can't interest your in my blue MG - it's only problem it that it's due the "C" service which means the engine has to be dropped-out the back to change the cambelt.
