Think I like the sound of this 'stuff'.

Only other sort of 'stuff' I remember was from when I was a little girl.....My Mum used to make pretty dresses for my sister and myself. We used to go and choose the 'stuff' to make them from !

Ahhh me, how times have changed !

Just to make you feel better .....

One of my "oldest" friends starts back at her primary school this week. They have just amalgamated the infants and juniors onto one site, which wasn't quite finished and they have their OFSTED inspection in 3 weeks' time. She is going up the wall at the moment!!!

Hope things are better for you!

Thought you might!

First day back at school, eh? Our schools have been back for over two weeks now - in fact they'll be coming off again in about 4 weeks' time for the 'Tattie Holidays'! That's the life!

please don't tell me your school kids get a holiday in honour of potatoes

Ha ha, thought that might confuse you!

OK, Rach - I'll try to explain. Firstly - yes, tatties are potatoes.

Historically, we always got the first two weeks in October off school so that you could go to the 'tattie picking' and earn some much needed pennies. Backbreaking hours spent picking up potatoes which had been dug up by a tractor - putting them in baskets - and then getting paid for your hard labour!

Now, most of the potatoes are harvested totally by machine so the manual labour's no longer required, but the school kids still get the same fortnight off. So, shorter summer holidays than the English schools, but 2 weeks in October instead.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for clearing that up Kaz
I rather fancy the thought of celebrating potatoes myself
so long as I don't have to pick my own

You're very welcome, Rach.

Although I quite like your suggestion that we eat chips every day for the duration of the holiday! Much more fun than picking potatoes.

Evening all.

All these posts about potatoes/chips are all very good, but just think what they do to all the svelte figures of the females on this site

Salad is much better for you. Although nowhere near as nice.

That is kind Kaphc And no it is not so bad for us....yet. We are due for OFSTED this year if timings comtinue as was said ! YUK !

And the 'tattie' talk...well.... having starved myself for MONTHS and losing a fair few pounds not to mention the odd stone or two, last night I actually made some unmentionables with real 'tatties'. it was on a 'whim' a 'fancy' a 'weakness' after swimming! I am now ashamed and feeling very , very weak

Oh well.

How are the troops doing tonight?

Step to it one and all got to work the 'ch**s' off somehow !

I could do with more friends like you bbcelleb ! They do say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I shall hide the 'specs' of everyone close to me so that I shall be a 'raving' beauty !

Evening, Boris.

Hope you made big fat home-made chips the other night - did you know they're far less fattening than the skinny chips you get at McDonalds? It's true . . . . so don't feel too guilty!

Rachb, those closest to me would say that it was definately an improvement for me to have no mouth; but rest assured If i wanted to eat chips and didn't have one I would certainly find a way ! LOL
