Default The housemates this year are awful

I watched the housemates entering the house and I was so disappointed. I always watch the show to really support a couple of characters and hope they survive the nomination process and get as far as possible. Last year, I adored Derek. He was original, intelligent and so DIFFERENT from the common gutter trash that is usually in there. I also liked Roberto and Kemal was an intelligent, insecure boy.

But this year, there is nobody endearing. Pete is the closest, but for some reason, I cannot warm to him. I don't like the sympathy card, and whatever anyone says, he is being played this card. Nadia was, in BB5 and now Pete is. He will win by a landslide, as no-one seems to actively dislike him, whereas many people disliked Nadia for her pretentious over emotional escapades.

Richard is ok and seems to comfort Lea and shows some fatherly qualities, but I am yet to see real depth to him.

Glyn is also ok, but so so unintelligent, which makes it hard for me to identify with him.

Lea I just feel sorry for. She is a deeply insecure lady. (look at her entrance into the house.) But is hardly watchable and I can't really take to her.

The rest are common and dull. Sezer is an even worse version of Anthony. He is a typical lad and I personally think he is as ugly as anything. I find his possessiveness and arrogance disgusting. Mikey is dull and also a common lad. His audition tape was a disgrace and shows young men in a bad light. As for George, he is supposed to be 'upper class'. But his behaviour is that of his years; a typical lad, who talks with the others about w@nking and how long they have gone without a shag.

The girls are little better. Grace is vile. She is a common young woman, who does modelling, likes clubbing and is possessive over men. How boring and unoriginal. Imogen is vacuous and could be a painting on the wall. She likes the same things as Grace. Lisa is just so thick it is scary and I find her personality grotesque and common. She is like a man in a (bad) woman's body.

Nikki is a self absorbed little child who goes around saying 'I'm upset'. She has the intelligence of a mosquito and is just another common girl with common aspirations.

Then the new housemates enter. Early to judge, but to put in another 'good looking' girl, who, in my opinion, is a clone of millions of blonde, brainless bimbos out there and turns me on as much as a flat glass of pepsi, is another dull decision. And to put in a cross dresser is just another boring move.

Where are the fat people? Where are the older people? Where are the intelligent people? Where are the geeks? Where are the people with glasses? Where are the introverts? Where is a person who does not like clubbing or lip gloss?

What a sad situation, if society has come to this. Every series there was someone to like. BB1: Nick, BB2: Dean, BB3: Can't remember, BB4: John, BB5: Ahmed, BB6: Derek

These characters are against the norm of housemates but not so extremely non-conformist (shabbaz) so as to not last the whole hog.

The problem with the show is that they have the two extremes in the show. The conformists nwho are the epitome of conformity and highlight every stereotype of nasty youngsters nowadays. And at the polar extreme, people who are so non-conformist, this becomes the person, rather than an aspect of her/his personality. Look at Shabbaz. Where was the person? He just became a caricature of insecurity. Mary from last year? Became a caricature of a witch. (Through no fault of her own, she was quite likeable, and the only girl where her breasts were not a focus of her personality.)

What a let down. I know everyone will vehemently disagree. But, there you go...

Well said Deep 2 , I don't agree with all the points you make ,but agree with the argument you make. Its run out of steam and through trying to be glam has lost any dynamic.

I agree Deep 2, they've gone down the route of trying to get 'good looking youngsters' having sex etc.

Do we want to see that? No.

If we wanted to see that, we'd watch Love Island.

And why are they all models or promotions girls??

They have gone too far down the 'chantelle' road. The producers have forgotten that Chantelle played off against people such as Barrymore,Burns and Galloway , after such a great celeb BB its a shame to see them get it so wrong.

I think sex sells but also think that the same things in bb have become tiresome. They have put to many gameplayers in and not anybody normal. I still think this bb is set for Pete to win from the start or the kitkat winner and nothing I have seen so far has made me change my mind the others are just there to make up the numbers.

Too many of them seem so similar, you could imagine a lot of them going on holiday to somewhere like Ibiza or Faliraki together, it's not really a representative of Britain.

Nikki, Grace, Imogen, Mikey, the new girl, Leah have all done modelling of one sort or another. Richard seems obsessed with his body (unless the audition tape was just a gimmick), Sleazer clearly is obssessed with his body (I think it is ugly, personally).
The only people not in there due to their bodies are Glyn (well he almost is for being so weedy), Lisa (who is so gobby as to be unbelievable) and Pete.

Surely if BB is taking a wide selection of housemates from the public, there may not even be ONE model??? So one has to ask why BB is so shallow?

Apart from the odd exception I think this lot are the most normal since BB2. What is not normal is the BB format. still no nominations. Silly twists like the "Big Brotherhood".

Also contestants are indeed wise to the routine and form phony relationships because they believe the public want to see romance. Indeed they do but it needs to be genuine and not contrived to make money out of magazine deals when they leave.

In this respect BB is approaching it's sell by date as all concerned are treating it like a pantomime instaed of an endurance of genuine personality clashes.

Another critisism I would make is that they don't seem to have selected contestants that have the sticking power for a thirteen week run. Tough cookies are needed for that......

For me thus far it is watchable and enjoyable but only the highlight shows as i cannot find the interest to watch during the day on E4......

Early days but for me it is better than last years. Then could anything be worse than the terrible show that emerged last year.....I doubt it......

I still think its too early to say whether this years housemates are bad. On first impressions tho i would say the are pretty kewl adn go well as a group.
I dont think bb has reached an end millions of people still tune in to watch it and thts gto to mean something.

It's got to mean something that millions tune in to watch it?

Of course. We are being controlled and told how to conform and what to watch. Hence the show is undoubtebly popular...that doesn't make something GOOD because it is popular. It means it is merely popular. (Just like 99.9% of music nowadays.)

I think we're all waiting for things to happen, but unlike previous years, there are no instantly likeable characters that make me go "yeah, she/he's a great housemate"
