Pop Idol creators have unveiled their latest project - the hunt for an entire family of music wannabes.

The team behind the talent show which propelled Gareth Gates and Will Young to stardom hopes to unearth relatives who may one day storm the charts.

First Family Of Pop is being made by FremantleMedia, which produced the Pop Idol format, and is expected to be sold to broadcasters around the world.

Programme-makers hope the show will find family acts to follow the success of groups like The Jacksons, The Osmonds and the Bee Gees.

Simon Jones, who is behind the new show, said: "We are not just looking for vocalists - we're looking for the whole ensemble. Maybe Dad is an accomplished sax player, which sits well with Mum's falsetto range. Perhaps two young brothers' hip-hop moves complement big brother's rap lyrics. Maybe Mum and her two daughters carry the harmony as Dad and his two sons carry the backline of drums and guitars."

As well as musical performances, First Family will look at background stories that programme makers hope will be inspiring and touching.

The show will also feature their creative differences - with tiffs over musical choices as cameras catch all their deliberations. Discussions are under way to find a UK broadcaster.

Jones, managing director of Fremantle's new music wing FMusicTV, said: "It will be fantastically compelling to see how the dynamics of the family change under such pressure, particularly as the competition progresses and the stakes are raised."

I think this is the opportunity me and my multi-talented family have been waiting for. We would be like a grown up version of the Partridge family.........
