Default Club Football or International Football?

Just carrying this on from a discussion we had in the England vs Germany thread before.

If you were a professional footballer, which would you care more about, playing for your club team (Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, etc) or playing for your International team (England, Spain, Brazil, etc)?

For me, as a fan, I'm more emotionally attached to Liverpool than I am to England, and I think I'd be the exact same if I was a player.

Country by far. ANd I suspect for a lot of you guys, its because you ahvent had success with your country, thats why you prefer your club.

Its not even close for me. I would risk being suspended from my club to play for my country.
And David, you dont necessarily play for your favorite team at the club level. What if you were playing for Manchester united?

I'd never play for Man Utd, would rather accept an offer from Norwich or someone. I get what your saying though. But I guess, if you played for a club team you didn't support but was in that environment long enough, then you would probably grow to love them as much as your first team

So if you played for Liverpool reserves with not much chance of getting in the first team cuz say they'd bought a player who played in your position and was better than you; if Man U offered you a big contract would you turn them down?

I really, really hate Man Utd. So yeah I wouldn't accept a contract from them. I would if it was another one of our rivals like Everton, Arsenal, Chelsea. + I was really harsh on Rooney for moving to Utd from Everton when he did, so it'd make me a hyprocrite if I done the same.

I agree. I'm an Arsenal fan but I'd play for any of the top clubs - Even Spurs - if I was in the situation I described.

Playing for a club is a player's living. It's not the same as fans supporting a club. Fans have passion for their club but it's not their living. I'm sure a lot of players could play for any club, if they are given the chance, and it is good for their careers.

International football is different for them though.
