I think the newbies can nominate, but not sure about the otherway around. Normally they are given a weeks grace.

I think its crap that they get to be immune the first week, its not as if the older housemates got an immune week at the beginning of the show.

Of course they should be immune. The rest of the HM have had weeks of getting to know each other and form bonds. They have had no time at all. It would be absolutely pointless if they were not immune because obviously all three of them would be up immediately. What is the point of putting new HM in if that is the case? Even a week is not enough time for them to form bonds as strong as have been already formed by the original HM.
