I know all the dangers of smoking and drinking, but i still do it and im 18 and dont do it to look ''cool'' smoking doesnt make you look cool or sexy or any of the reasons young kids may do it.But i would never ever ever touch drugs..although each carries there own risks, drugs just seem more dangerous and its illegal!!

I tried to stop once a while a go and it wasnt pretty I can tell you, there should be some kind of rehab us smokers can go to lol!
You know the risks, so as long as it harms no-one else, then there isn't a problem

NHS smoking helpline may be able to help, I don't know, i've not smoked and I am unaware of what they do provide.

But if you are happy smoking, fair enough, it only affects you

I tried the NHS smoking website they can send you leaflets and posters and stuff, but most of the infomation they give you most people already know e.g the risks of cancer and stuff like that

A small amount of wine is meant to be good for you.

I see all the smokers/binge drinkers these days, and worry about there future kids.

In 10/20 years the NHS is going to be inundated, and there won't be enough room for everyone.

You're right, it's not cool or sexy, in fact the total opposite, but at 18, most people are trying it (or before)

It's later in life people pay for it.

It's a hard world, and some people survive. Both my Grandmothers were heavy smokers and they lived through 85.

Just basic rubbish then that everyone knows.

Doesn't surprise me.

I have some recent facts and figures somewhere from my practice, I just never read about smoking etc as I don't deal with it everyday.

I have never smoked, never seen the point in wasting money on them and I don't want to damage my health.

I like to think that I am a "responsible smoker" if there is such a thing! I dont smoke in my house because I do not want my family having my 2nd hand smoke, plus I dont like the smell of it in houses

I hate restaurants that sit the smokers right next to the non smokers and in fact would always choose to sit in the no smoking section as it isnt very nice eating and tasting someone elses fags!

I have been to NHS smoking cessation groups and have to admit they were helpful but with lots of things happening in my personal lilfe I fell off the wagon so to speak. I use it as an emotional crutch to be honest

I never smoke - it wouldn't be good for me if I did cos I have bad asthma and I wouldn't want to get any worse with it.

I don't smoke but Ive been offered cigarettes on numerous occasions, I think ive only had about 2 in my whole life but that was just because I wanted to try it.
My Dad smokes cigars in the house sometimes though which can get on my nerves, but not too often.

People don't often begin with smoking 20+ a day. Like most of the people on here I began having a "social" cigarette when I was with my friends and I "knew" I could stop at any time.

Of course, like any other addiction, the cravings become stronger and you become more and more hooked till you are smoking 20 or even more cigarettes a day.

I know I will stop at some point because it's not something that I'm proud of and it costs me a fortune but, like all addicts, today is not the "right time" and I know that tomorrow won't be either.
