Yes but that was many years after he stopped going to church, while he was a boy he was great, all his neighbours said he was polite helpful and a joy to know.

He used to help old ladies across busy roads, doing messages for elderly neighbours and stuff.

No, he wasnt a Nazi he is German and was born in the late 1920's, consequently he went through what was at the time normal life for germans school conscription etc.

Hitlers father was born out of wedlock to Maria Schicklgruber His mother later married Johann George Heidler/Hiedler. She died in 1847 and her husband died in 1857. Alois Schicklgruber(hitlers dad) legally changed his name or merely started using Alois Hitler in 1876.

Hitler also moved to Munich from Austria to avoid being drafted into the Austrian army in 1913. Interestingly his parents name were given as Alois and Klara Pölzl on the arrest warrant issued for him draft dodging(desertion) in Austria.

I may not be a Catholic, but I do find the thread title offensive in that implicitly seeks to link his atrocities to people of that faith. Admittedly the Roman Catholic church has it's share of scandals and atrocities down through the ages caused in some part by it's command and control structure, however it is trying to clean it's act up.

One wonders why the OP chose this title?

If it is to hit out at the Roman Catholic church, then be up front. Resorting to such tricks as going after Godwin's law and linking it to this denomination are tacky.

The realistic and meaningful answer is:
No.
Hitler (as in the adult we know came to know and love) was not really a Catholic and 'not really' in a nominal sense.

Any good books, wikis or documentaries about Hitler will explain he was actually raised Roman Catholic although they suppose this was mainly due to the strict adherence of his Mother.
Keep in mind this is back when anyone and everyone went to Church like it was practically a social requirement.

Hitler leaves home around age 18 and is never known to have ever returned to a Church or practiced any kind of Roman Catholicism from there on. Even those closer to him never recalled him even mentioning it.

The real trouble starts later when Hitler does in fact find himself an 'Anti-Catholic' cult leader.
This dude was a Priest (nope, actually he was not, he was ex-communicated, banned, fired by the Roman Catholics).
This 'Renegade Priest' was teaching pretty much exactly what you and I know as 'Nazism' and 'Hitler's Beliefs'.

So I can't say that following the teachings of an 'Anti-Priest' who was rejected by Roman Catholics to be 'returning to Roman Catholicism' heh.
Hitler chooses something directly OPPOSED and specifically deemed heresy by RCs.

Now as Hitler was gathering power he would often lie to audiences. Like most politicians.
Not always 'lying' but as politicians and lawyers can do - contorting and manipulating facts in such ways that the deception becomes essentially 'lying'.
At one point Hitler (lobbying to Lutheran farming crowds) suddenly admired Luther.
Odd since Hitler barely mentioned Luther ever before. But now he was using 'Lutheran' type language and 'admired Luther'.
YET,
When rallying support from rural more dedicated Roman Catholics Hitler now suddenly wanted to claim ownership of his 'nominal' family religion and was declaring he was in fact 'A Roman Catholic and always will be'.

Amazing since he didn't seem proud enough to mention it or practice it for his entire adult life,
and,
then was actively involved in a cult specifically rejected and deemed heretical by the RCs.

But 'technically speaking' he was actually registered in a Roman Catholic Church as a child by his parents,
and,
technically he never actually filed any papers removing himself from that Church roll.
So 'technically and nominally' you could say (somehow) he was 'Roman Catholic',
but,
In actuality and for all practical purpose he left it at his mothers house and joined an anti-catholic cult.

Oh.. Hitler also murdered thousands of Roman Catholics. He also murdered thousands of Greek Orthodox.
Also Hitler mass murdered what would later become 'Jehovahs Witnesses' (but at the time an evangelical bible study group),
and,
Hitler's wars also saw the deaths of tens of thousands of Roman Catholics trying to stop him.

Also.. the Roman Catholic Church did an amazing job saving the lives of hundreds and thousands of Jews and others being persecuted by Hitler.

I have an advantage of family (amazingly still alive today) who have personal first hand and second hand knowledge of this when and while and where it was happening.
but,
ANYONE can easily find out all of this with a long list of sources, citations and well documented reports and interviews.
This is not even the 'debatable' part of things. This is stuff you can find is very obvious.
