Default What makes people apply to be on BB?

What is it that makes people apply to be on Big Brother? The Channel 4 official website currently has an article suggesting ways to spend £70,000. But is it really the money that lures contestants in? Or is it the chance to appear on national TV 24 hours a day 7 days a week? Or maybe it’s just about meeting new people and having a laugh?

Whatever the motivation, it’s clear that there are thousands interested in being a Big Brother housemate judging by the amount of audition tapes that are sent each year. Would you enter to appear on Big Brother? And why????

I seem to remember Helen saying the thought of 9 weeks holiday seemed a good idea!!

I've no idea, kaphc, why people would want to put themselves through it. I suppose, for the majority, it's a bit of a "dare".

Whatever, I'm grateful to them because, otherwise, we'd have no Big Brother to watch!!

Well I have to admit I applied for BB3 but I was so thankful I didn't get in!! I'd thought that if the contestants were anything like the BB2 gang I'd be in 7th heaven! There were really only a couple of people I disliked, and even then it was just dislike rather than hate - quite a different story from BB3, where just about everyone got on my nerves at some point!

I'm not at all surprised I didn't get in. For one thing my video was dire - I had so many false starts that in the end I gave up and just did a little chat to the camera with a Dean track playing in the background. (probably a really bad move considering they forbid any talk of previous series!) It wasn't any worse than Jade's "rubber band" etc but hey ho ... I just thank god they didn't pick me!!

It didn't enter my head to try this year, which is a shame as it sounds like they're returning to more "warmth and wit" (I'm sure I read that somewhere!) and the house looks lovely - warm and welcoming and not a bit like the cold, clinical BB3 house.

My reasons for applying were basically because I wanted to do something "different"! The money would have been nice but that didn't even come in to it to be honest. The thought of meeting such great people from all walks of life and forging such strong friendships was a big motivator, as was slobbing around like a teenager and drinking cider for x-number of weeks!

I don't think I would have been quite as boring as some, a bit more tolerant than others, but I would have enjoyed every minute - except the loo of course!!

I got trapped into giving a commitment to apply

The idea was, while still staying with in the BB Rules, cause as much awkwardness to Endemol/C4 as possible. Sort of like a fifth columnist.

Lukily this year I did not get so entrapped.

I would never ever ever ever go on Big Brother - however, there is a very small part of me that does.

I would like soemone I know to go on it so I could say, 'Hey, I know that person' but not anyone too close to me because if they got hurt, I would get hurt too.

It never seems like people go on Big Brother go in to it for the money, the only person I can think of who was really gunning for the money was Craig because he needed it for the operation for his friend. They might secretly go on it for the money but it seems the main reasons are to have a bit of fun and to actually be on 'Big Brother' or to get their chance of fame.

I would not want to go on it but there is a small part that wants to - not big enough to actually apply though.

I'm the same, like watching it but wouldn't like to be in it. My bottle would go, and know one really gets that famous from it, if they haven't won it. Brians done the best out of it, and Craig, but anyone kicked out before seems to struggle a bit, and has to go back to doing what they did before. But it entertains us all for a few months in the summer anyway, which is nice.
