It becomes the 'mute point' because in the specific case of John James I would happily punch him in the face simply for being a dick and without even factoring in the Australian about him.

Again, I just don't see any kind of Oedipus complex. Quite the reverse. I can imagine John James as the type to bond quite well with his father, but develop an intense dislike for his mother. Men who have serious issues with women are normally blaming their mother for neglecting them in some way.
