I actually don't mind house spiders. Huntsmen can ****** off. Their bites can make your flesh turn colours you never thought possible, plus they don't even make webs which makes them freeloaders.

They're rare in the UK though so...

That is very true, but one that size is just too much. And the speed of the things!

You're perfectly safe you know shaun, there arent many man eating spiders in the world.

Spider bites are very rare too, interesting poison though, generally two proteins that are poisonous - neurotoxins, and one that is a necrotising agent which breaks down the tissues.

More people die worldwide from Bee and wasp stings than from spider bites.

WTF do you mean RARE??! You mean they do exist here?

I also had to do some t'internet research last year when I had my giant spider problem and came to the conclusion it was a giant house spider but now I'm thinking it could have been deadly! yikes!

None of them are native to the UK as far as I know, but some can get here via banana shipments. Not sure how long they would survive in the Scottish weather.

It probably wouldn't bother me if I didn't have a blatant phobia of spiders. Australians learn to live with those terrifying funnel web spiders.

Well they don't harm people at all. And I do get scared of big ones, but I still love them, maybe I should get a pet tarantula instead of a kitten

Most species of spider have two fangs through which they inject venom. Most are non aggressive, they bite in self defence. They will rear up like the photograph (post #33) when threatened and bite only as a last resort.

Kittens will scratch and bite freely. Scratches and bites from kittens are prone to infection.

Tarantula bites are more or less harmless as far as I know. Infections aside.

Pretty much like a bee sting, generally they wont inject venom in a self defence strike. But if they do it stings like a bitch. Very little chance of infection.

Other types of spiders have higher level of necrotysing agents in their venom, so can cause ulceration, which needs debridement( all the dead tissue in the ulcer removing) Brown recluse, huntsman etc.

Again it depends on how much of their venom their inject.

Don't remind me. Have you seen the slideshow on YouTube of a guy's hand, with the wound from a brown recluse bite worsening each day? One of the most gross things I've ever seen. Everybody in the comments told him to stop taking pictures of his hand and get to a hospital.
