Just in case you dont know the story:
Danny Dyer and Zoo magazine are at loggerheads over the axing of his column and claims that he was "misquoted" in his agony uncle page in which he said that a heartbroken boyfriend should "cut his ex's face, so no one will want her". In response to a letter about getting over a split from a girlfriend, the Football Factory actor and TV presenter's column said: "You've got nothing to worry about, son. I'd suggest going out on a rampage with the boys, getting on the booze and smashing anything that moves. Then, when some bird falls for you, you can turn the tables and break her heart. Of course, the other option is to cut your ex's face, and then no one will want her." Zoo magazine has rejected a claim made in the Sun last week that Dyer had been misquoted in his response to the letter from 23-year old Alex Woolliscroft. "As an immediate result of an ongoing internal inquiry following an indefensible comment published in this week's issue, Zoo has decided to bring the Danny Dyer column to an end," says a statement on the lads' magazine's website. "We would like to make it clear that Danny was not misquoted, but that does not excuse the fact his comment appeared in print." It is understood that Dyer's weekly advice column is dictated over the phone to a member of the magazine's staff, a common practice in the magazine industry. In the Sun, Dyer, who has presented a number of TV shows and featured in nearly 30 films, was reported as saying: "This is totally out of order, I am totally devastated. I have been completely misquoted. This is not the advice I would give any member of the public. I do not condone violence against women." Dyer is understood to have appointed lawyers to look at the case. Any thoughts on this story? Last edited by brian3; 08-06-2010 at 09:21 PM. |

I can imagine him saying that tbh. Certainly more than I can imagine somebody else making it up.
I think he said it but is trying to save his image. Zoo seem certain he actually said it so they must have it on record. Of course, they should check and edit stuff before its printed. So theyre also at fault. |

I think the guy's a nob jockey but it's the mag that's at fault. They are the ones who publish what they want to be read in their issue. They pick and choose. It is their responsibility alone.
I've had articles rejected for their content before from the mag that I write for - sometimes certain parts are edited out, and sometimes the subject matter is deemed inappropriate and the article is scrapped altogether. It's my job, as a writer, to avoid things like this... simply as a wise carreer choice. But if they want to publish it, they have to stand by their decision.

He probably said it, but I think it's pretty clear that it was a joke.
And most people that write in to these columnists and crap are just taking the piss anyway. I bet the guys ex left him to sleep with his dad and he caught them in the act, on the backseat of his car or something stupid. There always the same. ...Not like I read them that often. |
