Liverpool's Mersey-slide... Everton outnumber derby rivals in our 'Everpool' combined XI Liverpool might nomally expect to dominate a combined Merseyside X1, but a 6/5 split in Everton's favour underlines how they have lost their way on the field, as well as off it. Daniel Agger is the only Liverpool player with cause for complaint at being omitted. Glen Johnson's defensive shortcomings, not least his positional play, continue to count against him, while Joe Cole has yet to make the impact expected. Dirk Kuyt scores the winner in last season's derby at Anfield On paper, it looks a formidable line-up, but, on grass, it has been a different story so far this season, with too many illustrious names still searching for their true form. Perhaps the intensity of a Merseyside derby will help them find it. Everpool XI GK - Pepe Reina (Liverpool) - frequent complaints about the ownership saga affecting morale suggests he may have taken his eye off the ball - he certainly did against Arsenal - but he still just gets the nod over Tim Howard. RB - Phil Neville (Everton) - no Glen Johnson going forward, admittedly, but he knows how to defend, which ought to be a basic requirement for any full-back but appears not to be at Anfield. CB - Jamie Carragher (Liverpool) - age may be catching up, and some nippy strikers even overtaking, but the inbuilt instinct to hold a back line together remains as strong as ever. Born to defend. CB - Phil Jagielka (Everton) - another inspired David Moyes signing. Didn't look it to begin with but has flourished to such a degree that any injury absence impacts on England, never mind Everton. LB - Leighton Baines (Everton) - if there's not much attacking flair on the right, there is on the left. Telepathic understanding with Steven Pienaar down the flank wins him the vote over Paul Konchesky. RW - Dirk Kuyt (Liverpool) - found his niche on the right after struggling up front and would be the last to falter in any endurance test. Leon Osman may still feel rightly aggrieved at being overlooked. Close call. CM - Mikel Arteta (Everton) - not at his scintillating best this season but still good enough to walk into this midfield, which says plenty about Liverpool's lack of creativity. Not making things happen but not hiding, either. CM - Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) - strongest shoulders in football after carrying his home team for far too long. Liverpool pay him well enough but will always owe him for staying loyal and constantly inspiring. Captain, naturally. RW - Steven Pienaar (Everton) - instead of searching far and wide for a winger who can open up defences, Liverpool should have looked across Stanley Park. A free agent next summer, Pienaar would be easy on the eye and the pocket. AM - Tim Cahill (Everton) - a goal on Sunday would be his fifth in derbies and take him past Duncan Ferguson as Everton's highest post-war scorer in these games. Wait for sparks to fly when he fronts up Carragher. CF - Fernando Torres (Liverpool) - past reputation gets him in ahead of Louis Saha. Current form, and demeanour, has to be Roy Hodgson's biggest worry. A dramatic upturn in Liverpool's fortunes is needed to keep him happy. This time tomorrow we'll be into the second half, I'm so excited I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve, nothing like being at a derby game at Goodison!

Arsenal fortunate to win against Birmingham. Never a penalty. Aston Villa and Chelsea ended in a bore draw as I expected. Man United yet again blew a 2-0 lead, this time against WBA.
Cardiff struggle to beat bottom team Bristol City. Derby beat Preston with ease but Preston have an easy game against Scunthorpe next which will surely end in victory. Sven's first game at Leicester ends in a draw despite them taking an early lead. Middlesbrough lose again and need to get rid of Strachan if they want to challenge for promotion. An incredible game in Yorkshire, Sheffield United came back from 2-0 down to make it 2-2 then came back from 3-2 down to equalize in the last minute. Swansea won and look like a really good team, could become the first Welsh team to play in the Premier League. Good win for Bordeaux in at Auxerre. Marseille beat Nancy 1-0 with a Remy goal. A Gomez hat-trick for Bayern Munich got them back to winning ways as they beat Hannover 3-0. Mainz run of victories is over when they conceded a late goal to Hamburg and lost 1-0. Mclaren's Wolfsburg lost at home to Bayer Leverkusen despite having a 2-0 lead up until the 72nd minute, they conceded three goals in the last 18 minutes. Lol you dick, we didn't struggle at all. Would have put 7 at least past them if James didn't (typically) have a blinder. 2 silly mistakes by naylor and heaton was the only reason we conceeded, they didn't even look like scoring since.
Don't give your crappy little write-ups unless you were actually there. Shows how much you know...
