It's probably the only funny sketch in that show.
Yeah, maybe a bit dated. He looks like an 80's Northerner fresh from a miners' strike, lol.
It would probably be more accurate if they had blond mullets, ripped jeans, embroidered tops and worked as outbound sales workers. The North is actually still stuck in the early 2000's. The local chavs on the other hand are still in the early 90's.

No matter that they act like senile 12-year-olds on the Today programme website - smoking illegal fags to look tough and cool.
