MM&I you are an absolute diamond.

Wagner's fanbase included Hitler.

I was going to ignore all of the bizarre arguments in the thread but to further Vicky's point about playing the devil's advocate; surely to base an informed opinion on any artist's material you have to listen to all of it, and I think the only TiBB member who can genuinely say that they do that is Shaun, which is why by and large you should all bow down to his opinions - at least they're informed, therefore there's more validity in what he's saying.

Anyway as for irritating fanbases, I'd say Lady Gaga's are the most annoying at the moment because they rave on about all this stuff she does as if she's innovating promoting gay rights or meat is murder or whatever the hell it is she does - accept that while she is doing positive things for those causes, she is absolutely using the fact she's a celebrity to get her point across, just like every other celebrity who has an opinion. She is not any different in that respect. And then I don't know how best to describe the other type of fanbase that annoys me, but that scene, emo sort of vibe that I used to vaguely be connected to that is full of 14 year olds who get emotionally invested in a band, go on about how they 'heard them first, before you heard of them' and take their teenage angst out via their bands or their hatred for other people for liking their bands and then suddenly realise the whole scene they immersed themselves in is still aimed at 14 year old teenagers and they've got nothing to be a part of anymore.

No you don't. I explained this in what I thought was a pretty fair, logical way. It's a myth to think you have to listen to an entire artists output when you are talking about people who are 'artists' in inverted commas. Compare Leona Lewis with Rocky. It's a safe course. None of it strays from it's blueprint too much. After watching the first three Rocky films you can work out with a fair degree of accuracy if you are going to like the fourth one.

But I'll give Justin Bieber's discs are whirl for the giggle and if I unearth some gems I'll get back to you.

Are we talking about fans on the net or the ones we meet in real life? Cos tbh, don't really come across a lot of Bieber fans or "little monsters" lol

same actually^

the worst people in real life I come across are the NME types...the ones who namedrop rather than enjoy music. "Oh I love Foals they're ****ing amazing!" Sure you do. Sing me a song of theirs.

not gonna lie, I lolled that Shaun's the only one apparently allowed a valid opinion.

Also to people saying LEARN YOUR MUSIC HISTORY I'd love to hear you talking about the innovations of Wagner or the renaissance period.

you could say that, but popular music did develop gradually from classical music. I more stated the point because I don't like people thinking musical innovations only happened post 1950 or so

the difference being noone's come in here and said UGH VERDI'S FANS ARE SO PRETENTIOUS HIS MUSIC WAS **** ANYWAY despite having heard next to none of it.

the period of time is merely consequential. I'd be the same with people immediately writing off, say, Coldplay off the back of 'Clocks' or something.
