I don't know what she or her bosses are trying to prove by her being there but it seems pretty stupid to me. Different journalists suit different situations and she should not be there.
She also has a child and knew very well that its a very dangerous place to be, especially for a woman.

That's why I said "usually" since what exactly happened hasn't been disclosed. But still it's still a serious issue that she was put in that kind of position, just because her bosses wanted to be PC
