I think the "No threat thing" plays a small part.

In reality I expect you fancy a lot of straight guys but accept you cant have them for any number of reasons, however if they happen to be gay, for some people it seems to becomes a special reason to latch on too. I know straight guys with the qualities you mean, they are out there, there's our Pete for example!
In reality of course it's not a special (gay) reason, some people are just nice people that you cant have!

It works in reverse too, I fancy Pete and that just aint gonna happen!! LOL
