Crimewatch host Rav Wilding has announced his split from Chantelle Houghton in the most public of arenas – Twitter.

Last night a source close to Chantelle revealed she was devastated to discover about the Tweets.

As well as attending various premieres and showbiz nights out, they were handsomely paid to do cheesey photoshoots and magazine interviews. News of their split comes after pictures emerged at the weekend of the couple having a blazing row during a picnic.

Celebrity Big Brother winner Chantelle was seen sobbing as Rav shouted at her, and, at one point, grabbed her by the arm.

Rav was summoned for a dressing down on Monday a day after he was pictured arguing fiercely with Chantelle Houghton in a South London park.

He ended his five-month romance with the Celebrity Big Brother star on Sunday, via Twitter. His regular tweets about his personal life have also been viewed poorly by BBC chiefs. Last night, a source close to Rav said: “For many executives, Crimewatch is the BBC’s flagship serious show, so they weren’t thrilled with his choice of girlfriend.

“Bosses were even less impressed when they started doing Mills & Boon-esque glossy magazine shoots, declaring their love – hardly in keeping with the Crimewatch ethos.”

But what seemingly brought things to a head was Rav’s recent public spat with Chantelle and his ensuing tweets. One of which said: “The relationship wasn’t the genuine thing.”

Last night, a BBC source told the Mirror: “As far as we are concerned, it is a personal matter. Rav was spoken to as a matter of course but it was a case of pastoral care more than of him being hauled in.

Presumably, he was politely asked if he knew which side his bread was buttered on .....

Friends of the former Strictly Come Dancing star said the 33-year-old is concerned the Essex blonde was just using him for publicity.

Pals explained that he was so heartbroken he's decided to take a brief holiday alone to help him get over the 27-year-old.

A source told TV Biz: "Rav's devastated at the end of the relationship and is having a few days away to try to clear his head and process it all. Suggestions that he's been sent on a leave of absence or was called in for a meeting at the BBC are untrue and way off the mark."

She arrived in a horse-drawn carriage wearing a stunning plunging black dress which showed ex-boyfriend Rav Wilding exactly what he's missing.

But newly-single Chantelle Houghton failed to raise a smile for photographers as she posed at the launch of her very own boutique, Vardo by Chantelle, in Essex.

And the reason for the former Big Brother star's unusually subdued appearance is sure to be down to her recent split from Crimewatch presenter Rav.

Chantelle has remained resolutely silent about the split, tweeting fans only to reassure them she was coping after the split.

Metro.co.uk has learned she is still 'utterly shocked' that Rav ended their romance – especially as he didn't have the guts to tell her to her face before he told the world on the social-networking site.

Now the 27-year-old is focussing on her new store.

Last weekend, photos emerged of the estranged couple engaged in a heated row in London's Richmond Park which ended with Chantelle in floods of tears and looking distraught as Rav stood shouting at her angrily.

Hours later, Rav declared the end of their whirlwind relationship on Twitter which, it now emerges, was news to Chantelle.

A source close to the former BB winner told us: 'In her mind she was really upset and obviously trying to work out what the hell happened that day in the park. Then she finds out she has been dumped on Twitter. She was utterly shocked. Finding out in that was wasn't nice.She's obviously really upset. It's been hard for her, really traumatic.'

The Celebrity Big Brother star had previously fled in tears after a huge argument with BBC Crimewatch presenter Rav which put enormous strain on their relationship.

Details of the bust-up emerged after we published *exclusive pictures last week of the two stars having a shocking clash in a London park, days before their six-month love affair ended.

Sources close to Chantelle, 27, and Rav, 33, confirm the earlier flare-up took place shortly before the Crimewatch hunk flew to Norway to film ITV1 reality show 71 Degrees North.

Friends say the beefy ex-police officer later apologised for his *temper and asked Chantelle to accept that he would not behave that way again.
A close friend of Chantelle told The People: “The incident in Richmond Park was not a one-off.

“Rav has got a pretty fierce *temper and would often upset Chantelle. She was so upset about it she made a point of telling Rav what he had done was unacceptable and must not happen again. Chantelle had moved on from it and almost forgot about it but then it happened again in the park.”

Wilding's obviously a bully-boy - he wouldn't try it on with someone his own size .....

An eagle-eyed witness told Star magazine: "Alex tucked into a steak dinner, washed down by several whisky and cokes, and then approached Chantelle, who was on her way to the ladies' room. He was definitely checking her out and mouthed 'sexy' as she walked past him."

Oddly, that didn't seem to turn Chantelle's stomach and the pair later "hit it off over quite a few champagnes".

The source claims both left before the end of the party but added: "I'm sure Alex was being a gent and walking Chantelle back to her hotel room."

This sounds like another cowardly attack on a woman ..... there are so many discrepancies that it doesn't ring true and it appears that bully-boy is still trying to shift the blame .....

Why would an ex-copper agree to DRIVE to a champagne picnic and how come Chantelle got hold of the car keys ? I know there could be reasonable answers to these questions but how come Wilding is always blaming Chantelle ? Has the burly ex-soldier got no mind of his own ?

It seems more likely that bully-boy has opted to kiss the boss's ass and "dump the broad" to maintain his Mr Clean image - I expect a super-injunction against Chantelle from him anytime soon .....

Celebrity Big Brother star Chantelle was stunned at the turnaround, which comes a week after furious Rav, 33, dumped her on Twitter saying that she used him to get media coverage.

A friend of Chantelle said: The call came out of the blue. To say it was a surprise to Chantelle, after the way hes treated her, is an understatement.

Rav told Chantelle that once things have calmed down at the BBC for him he hoped that they could try to back together.

Wearing a nude coloured T-shirt top, leggings and leopard-print boots, Chantelle failed to raise a smile for photographers as she headed back to her car.

TV presenter Rav Wilding is fuming over reports suggesting steroids made him aggressive towards ex-girlfriend Chantelle Houghton.

The News of the World quotes a friend of the blonde Celebrity Big Brother star who said Chantelle blamed Rav's use of the drugs for his rumoured filthy temper and had pleaded with him to stop taking them.

Though the paper also reported that Wilding was legally prescribed steroids as part of his asthma treatment, the Crimewatch presenter has been angered by any suggestion that they sent him into a rage.
