I played violent games like GTA and horror games like Resi and Silent Hill since I was a kid, they haven't affected me none. Probably because I had PARENTAL guidance and wasnt just allowed to be sat in front of something by myself.

Yes, because we all know about that scene where Chucky turns to the camera and tells the viewers to go out and murder people...

People go out and kill other people, not films, not games. By even giving the idea that they do a second of our thoughts we're pretty much saying 'it's okay that you've mutilated someone, just find some unrelated film or game to blame it on'. Films and games can't make us do anything, if we choose a course of action then it's a choice WE'VE made consciously.

If you want to play the blame game then blame the parents who never taught their kids right from wrong or noticed that they might be, you know, psychotic?

It's absoloutely amazing that as a species we are willing to absolve ourselves of so much. We are conscious creatures who are either fucked from the start or have been givin ample chance to form our own moral foundations.

Not robots who can be programmed at will by the arts to go out and destroy things.

Some people will be influenced by violent video games, yes, no doubt about it. They're not the direct cause for any incidents happening in real life though. The person has to be a little messed up already to then be influenced by the game so much that they would then act the things out in real life. Millions and millions of people play violent games all the time but are perfectly normal people with no constant thoughts of killing anyone who isn't a pixel on a tv/computer screen.

I believe young people are far more switched-on that some give them credit for. The vast majority of people, whatever age they may be, know from a very young age the difference between reality and make-believe as well as they know the difference between right and wrong. Some terrible things have been done by people who wish to excuse their behaviour and blame it on an outside source like films or games, anything so they don't have to take responsibility for their actions. It's a cop-out. I suggest that the people who perpetrate violent crime wouldn't have done things any differently if they had never watched a violent film or played a violent game.

Violence is inherent in human beings. If you want to know about real horrific horror and violence, don't look at games and fiction, look at history.
