As the dust settles and BB7 is confined to the annals of history it is time for us to consider the long term consequences of what has happened . . .
When Pete first entered the associations linked to Tourettes complained that this was exploitation, but now they say it really helped raise awareness about this condition. Has Pete's voyage on BB7 helped to expalin this disability. Discuss Please cite references, you have one hour please turn over your exam paper now |

No,
for the simple fact that his condition was edited for TV purposes. It seems that Pete says ******* about as much as he says w**ker. So his condition was prettied up for TV, his condition whilst very frustrating and embarrassing for the sufferer can be equally so for the family. What we got was the happy go lucky, jolly boys clean version. No awareness, just a dead cert winner. |

I can't remember where, it was probably on BBLB, but I heard someone say that Tourette's is now looked upon as 'the swearing disease.' Whilst Pete definitely raised awareness that such a thing existed, Tourette's does not trigger only swearing, but for a lot of people with Tourette's they simply show signs of twitching etc.
So now there seems to be the ridiculous suggestion that unless you swear, you don't actually have 'proper Tourette's' which completely isn't true and I know that since I had an awareness of Tourette's before watching BB. Of course, none of this is Pete's fault though - I believe he was just displaying what his regular reaction was. |
