If we spend 20 odd mill of Erikssen (Sp) i will be really pissed off Pogba is 100% the player he is as is Cleverly

As for the game Evans , Fabio,De Gea and Young all put a good shift in. Although it is quite ovious to see that Hernandez has been working on his link up play i still think Danny is the better fit

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Antonio Valencia could be out for up to four weeks with an hamstring injury.

I think Pogba might get a chance in the second leg at Old Trafford, LK...

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes there is enough depth in the squad to cope without injured midfielder Antonio Valencia.

The Ecuadorian international, who has been so influential recently, injured his hamstring in last night’s 2-0 Europa League in at Ajax but Ferdinand is remaining calm about his imminent absence.

“It's a really big blow,” he told the club’s official website. “Antonio's been a fantastic player for us this season.

“But when somebody gets injured or loses form at this club the manager can always call upon another player to perform.”

Ferdinand cited the return of Tom Cleverley, Phil Jones and Nani as the major reasons for not worrying too much about Valencia’s injury.

“It's important to recognise we had a few players who have been out recently and were able to get a few minutes under their belts. That was good,” he added.

“In Tom's case, he's an all-round player and the sort of guy who's going to be beneficial to the team. He's got a lot of energy and he's a good passer of the ball. It's good to see him back.”

Nemanja Vidic could be set to return to play a part in Manchester United's title challenge, according to reports.

The Daily Mail reports that the 30-year-old is making good progress in his rehabilitation from surgery on his right cruciate ligament and could be available for the latter stages of the season.

It was initially feared when Vidic sustained the injury, in United's shock 2-1 loss to Basel, that he would be out for at least the rest of the season.

The United captain had set his focus on getting ready for the 2012-13 campaign, but now he could help his team-mates in getting over the finishing line as they battle for domestic glory and Europa League success.

Sir Alex Ferguson's medical men are still wary about rushing Vidic back too soon, with United's pre-season tour of Asia the initial target, but it is understood that the former Serbia centre-half has made such quick progress that he has begun to put more weight onto his knee in his fitness sessions.

This would be such a boost if true but I hope he does not rush his return.

Ashley Young was one of the players name-checked by Roy Keane when the ex-Manchester United captain delivered his stinging assessment of their Champions League failure.

Along with Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, Keane believed Old Trafford’s latest generation had been given a reality check after initially being lauded.

It was hard to argue with the Irishman’s criticism as United were humbled in a ‘gimme’ of a group in a tournament in which they’ve graced three of the last four finals.

Likewise, it was difficult not to agree with Sir Alex Ferguson’s assertion that he is presiding over the most talented group of young players since Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and David Beckham emerged.

The Champions League proved too unforgiving for a squad decimated by injury and shorn of the experience of Scholes, Gary Neville, Edwin van der Sar, John O’Shea and Wes Brown from the previous season.

But in keeping pace with leaders City at the top of the table, Ferguson’s side have cushioned that crushing disappointment in Europe.

And in recent wins against City, Arsenal and Liverpool, as well as coming back from three goals down to earn a draw at Chelsea, United’s starlets have gone a long way to answering Keane’s criticism.

They got their Europa League campaign off to a winning start at Ajax on Thursday night, with Young scoring the opening goal in the 2-0 first leg victory in Amsterdam.

It was his first goal since September when he made such a promising start to his United career.

And it continued United’s impressive form since defeat in Basle provoked such consternation from Keane.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinion,” said Young.

“I’ve got to concentrate on my game and do well.

“I think the team has been brilliant throughout the season. There have obviously been blips, but we have the strength of character to bounce back from that.

“I think the boys have done tremendously well in the last few weeks and we showed that especially in the second half against Ajax.

“Obviously it was disappointing to go out of the Champions League, but that is in the past and we’ve got to look forward to this competition now.

“Not many of the players have played in it and we want to win.”

Young and the rest of United’s starlets received glowing praise after a start to the season that saw them come back to beat City in the Community Shield and record league wins against Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea.

JAVIER HERNANDEZ insists he has no problem with his role as Manchester United's new supersub.
The Mexican striker has already netted 29 goals in just 18 months at the club — 10 of which have come from the bench.

That tally means only United hero Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has scored more as a substitute.

The Norwegian scored 28 from 150 sub appearances but Hernandez's 10 goals have come from only 30 games.

And while many players would voice their disappointment at only playing a bit-part role for their side, Chicharito is more than happy to come on as an impact player.

The 23-year-old said: "I just want to help my team. I don't care if I'm on the bench.

"Last year I was on the bench at the start and then I was in the team towards the end of the season. The gaffer has the answers.

"Every player in every team wants to play as many minutes as possible, but I don't care if I start or I'm a substitute.

"I just want to enjoy it. I am living a dream to play for Manchester United."

Red Devils boss Alex Ferguson put Solskjaer's success down to the intense way he watched and studied a game from the bench.

Hernandez though cannot put his finger on why he has been so effective as a sub and admits it could all just be a bit of luck.

He added: "I don't know what makes me effective as a substitute. I don't have the answer.

"In football you can't always come up with a reason, because of this or that.

"If I play one minute, 10 minutes or 90 minutes I try to play the same. My mind is always to do my best and help my team.

"There are some times in the game when we need to score and perhaps I have had a little bit of luck."

Chris Smalling has his sights set on a league and European double, and insists that Manchester United will do everything they can to win the Europa League this season.

As the Red Devils prepare for their last-32 second leg clash with Ajax at Old Trafford, the 22-year-old defender is set to return from a three-game absence to face the Eredivisie giants on Thursday.

Sir Alex Ferguson named a strong line-up in last week's 2-0 first leg victory at the Amsterdam Arena, dispelling the notion that United would not be taking the competition seriously, having been knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages back in December.

But Smalling is adamant that Europa League success is high on the players' list of agendas, and reassured any doubters that they will be "giving their all" to reach the final.

"You only need to look at the teams who are still in the Europa League to realise it's a competition worth winning," he told Inside United and ManUtd.com.

"I mean, eight of the teams were competing in the Champions League earlier this season and a lot of the others have done so previously. The Europa League is a strong competition and there are plenty of mouth-watering ties in this phase.

"Obviously we'd still like to be in the Champions League but we're looking at the Europa League as a second chance. We're going to go out there and show Europe we can still perform and we can still win trophies.

"We want to reach the final, although we know it won't be easy. All of the players will be going out on the pitch and giving our all to reach the final."

In his first season at United, Smalling was part of the squad that claimed the Premier League crown, and that taste of silverware has only made the former Fulham starlet's desire for more trophies even stronger.

"I was lucky to win the league in my first season and, at the risk of sounding greedy, I want to win the league every year," he added. "That's how it should be at Manchester United.

"In fact, I'd be disappointed if we didn't win at least one or two trophies every season. I don't feel like a new boy at all anymore. I've been here for 18 months, so I feel well and truly settled.

"I think I've learnt a lot since I joined and I'm striving all the time to improve because I want to be a part of many more title wins in the future."

Manchester United have opened talks with winger Nani as they look to tie him down to a four-year contract, according to The Sun.

Despite having two years yet to run on his current contract, the new deal would see Nani's basic wage rise from Ł90,000 to a reported Ł130,000 a week.

The increase would see him join the same bracket as Old Trafford's highest earners and cement his place as one of Sir Alex Ferguson's key men.

The winger, 24, has been in inspired form this season and Ferguson seems confident that the Portuguese international can surpass his former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo's achievements and become a United legend.

Despite an unconvincing start to life in England, the Ł18 million signing from Sporting Lisbon has improved rapidly since 2007, and was last year voted player's player of the year by his team-mates.

United also appear ready to spend further on their squad after reports recorded a profit of Ł175m over the last six months.

Good news if true.

Tom Cleverley says he is back to full match sharpness and ready to play his part in Manchester United's quest for domestic and European glory.

An ankle injury picked up in October forced the promising midfielder to miss a large chunk of the season, with an impressive opening to the campaign brought to an abrupt halt.

Cleverley has, however, returned to the Red Devils fold over recent weeks and played just over an hour in their 2-0 victory over Ajax in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 encounter.

Sir Alex Ferguson has vowed to give the 22-year-old a full run-out in the return date on Thursday, as United look to take another positive step towards continental success.

Cleverley claims he is in the best possible shape ahead of that fixture, with a spell on the sidelines having left him fresher than most for the end of season run-in.

"It's good to be back," he told United's official website.

"It's massively frustrating to be out for that length of time but I'm back now, I'm fresh, I'm 100 per cent and looking forward to the end of the season."

Cleverley is among those hoping a productive end to the season will lead to a Euro 2012 call-up, but he insists he is giving little thought to international recognition right now.

"I'm just concentrating on tomorrow night and then Sunday (against Norwich), for my club," he added.

"If I can get into some good form between now and the end of the season, I'd be more than happy to be involved in the European Championship this summer."

We were lucky to get through yesterday, another flat European performance.

SAF admitted he made a mistake with some of the inexperienced players but promised our experienced players will be in team vs Athletic Bilbao in the next round.

Manchester United star Nani has admitted he is struggling to regain his top form since returning from injury.

The Portugal international made a tentative return against Ajax last week after almost a month on the sidelines with a foot injury.

And the 25-year-old then played the full 90 minutes of the second-leg encounter with the Dutch champions at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

But, despite clipping the crossbar with one second-half effort, it was a subdued performance from the winger as United only succeeded in creeping through to the last 16 of the Europa League.

With Antonio Valencia having suffered a hamstring injury in Amsterdam last week and the title race heating up, Sir Alex Ferguson could do with a fit and flying Nani for the upcoming trips to Norwich and Tottenham.

Yet the player himself feels he is still short of his best and will need to work hard to recapture his form.

"It has been difficult to get the consistency," said Nani.

"I am getting there but I need more minutes. I will work hard to come back because we need every player.

"Just now I am not at my best but I will try to recover my form as quickly as possible."

Tom Cleverley picked up a knock, he's gone for a scan and Sir Alex does not think it is a serious injury. Hopefully he will be fit enough for the trip to Norwich on Sunday!
