Metal Gear Solid 5 has been confirmed by series creator Hideo Kojima.

The latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK features an interview with Kojima, where he discusses the future of the series between Metal Gear Solid: Rising and Metal Gear Solid 5, which he declared was in development.

The last game in the series, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, was said to be the last game in the series to star protagonist Solid Snake.

No details regarding Metal Gear Solid 5's story or setting have been revealed as of yet.

Kojima will make an appearance at the 2011 Spike Video Game Awards where he will reveal new details about Metal Gear Solid: Rising.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, which includes Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker released earlier this month in North America for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It has been delayed to February 3 in Europe.

Almost certainly going to be a next gen title you would have to assume. Great news obviously though. Probably my favourite series of games ever along with Final Fantasy & Elder Scrolls.

It's a balls the HD collection was delayed too but it's kind of a blessing in disguise in that I will have time to concentrate on it in the normally bleak first few months of the year.

Kojima Productions boss Hideo Kojima has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 5 is under development for the new Fox Engine.

Speaking to the French magazine, IG, Kojima confirmed the game is in existence and may even include a familiar face.

“There will be a Metal Gear Solid 5 with the new FOX Engine,” confirmed Kojima (via Google Translate), “but what we’ve shown was not gameplay, or anything like that. It was only a demo that we had developed internally and released because the lighting and interactions with the environment had fooled everyone.”

Kojima continued: “About Metal Gear Solid 5, I can tell you two things. There will be much question of infiltration, espionage, and convincing people to give you “a favor” like in the last Metal Gear Solid. I liked the idea of ​​social interactions in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but we will see. And if I say more, the female ninja public relations officer, who is behind the door, I will be carved up into pieces. Kojima also touched upon Metal Gear Rising and at this point also gave a hint of what’s to come from the Metal Gear series.

MGS4 was a good place to end it, Bringing him back in a sequel would just void the last game completely.

I agree, though if this was set in between MGS2 and MGS4, that would be quite good

rising was originally meant to be set between 2 and 4 so hopefully this is what 5 will do

Another interesting idea would be if it chronicled the early days of Solid Snake, think Metal Gear 1 & 2 (The originals, before it was MGS)
