If our goverment played fair ball: they'd actually gain MORE tobacco sales in the long run.

Amber Leaf baccy - was being sold on a promo - 1kg with free 1/2 bottle of vodka ! Superb!
Oh. I dont know if shes aware, might give her a ring later. I didnt know there was no limit now, and neither does she...she thinks its still like 5k a person or whatever it was (has told my brothers friend to bring a massive suitcase even if he doesnt need it, and told my dad and brother they need one each instead of sharing )

Edit oh, 3.2k it looks like it was. LOL at them trying to stop people bringing more than 800

I don't know anyone who smokes because of the so called "colourful packaging" that statement is just ridiculous!

I cant see it making much difference, i can actually see it encouraging young people to smoke, when you are a teen alot is about defiance and now these forbidden hidden behind the doors cigarettes are going to be desired.

For example since i was young alcohol has always been around in small quantities as just a drink, a little bit of shandy or a sip of grandads beer was normal so for me alcohol has never been this massive thing and its there but you don't go silly, those that get hold of it who haven't had much to do with it and see it as a big deal and rebelling against parents go crazy and end up paraletic.
I can only see young people have more desire to get to what is behind the doors rather than just being oblivious, lets face it everyone knows about smoking.

Of course it's stupid. The wee buggar that's in all of us at times; when someone tells you NOT to do something or that you can't have something: that's when it makes you all the more curious. The one guaranteed way for me to try something out when I was younger was to tell me 'No...'.

Friends of mine brought in a load of rolling tobacco and were asked if it was soley for them - which it was - and were actually asked if they could demonstrate by making a rollie..... True.

But the crucial wording is the bit I bolded.... - it's jus that they 'may' make it 'more likely' for you to be questioned - it's a frightener - nothing more.

Well if they do that to mum, dad can make rollies so thats fine

She would also probably say something about only being able to afford to go away once every 3 years or something (lies but they dont know that) to justify her huge haul. She doesnt get nervous around authority, like me

When me gav and his dad went to turkey, his dad brought back a lot more than we were meant to (you are only allowed 200 per person OR tobacco I think it is, he had about 4000 + loads of baccy) and he proper choked at the airport. They didnt search us but they asked how many ciggies he had. He went bright red and started stuttering so I said we had 200 each. They then asked about baccy to which I replied that the baccy out there was crap and snide, why would we want to smoke any of that crap...and I actually want a cig now after the 3+ hour journey so can they please leave me alone. It worked and they let us through

I think I might move to one of the countries in Europe that just ignored the smoking ban They're chilling in a nice pub or cafe with a cig and we're made to feel like we're buying crack from the co-op

It seems that the majority of Tobacco laws come into Ireland a few years before they do in the UK.
We've had this law for maybe 2 years now...As many have already pointed out most shops use them big machines, but now they put ads for chocolate and shop offers on it.

That InOne is a very strong and totally valid point, no one should be made to feel an outcast or that they are doing anything wrong when all they are doing is participating in something that is legal and also that they have had to pay for it too.

You know, my mum said a few months back...and I laughed at the time but it seems to be very true, that its more socially acceptable to snort a line of coke than it is to light a cigarette up.

She actually said this during a meeting at work about smoking (she works for the NHS ) and the majority of people there..or so she said, after getting over how she dared say that infront of the bosses, agreed with her. And she has a point IMO.

Hello! ... As an ex smoker I am for the ban, it was harder trying to quit when they seemed to be everywhere! haha. In the queue at the lottery terminal they mock you ...hide them I say.

It just reeks of trying to sweep a problem under the carpet. Out of sight, out of mind, when in reality, most young people don't start smoking because they can see cigarettes in the supermarket.

Smoking is not an advertising problem, it's a societal problem. There are lots of things I've grown up seeing on supermarket shelves that I've never felt the inclination to try.

that's the bit that pisses me off big time. Smokers have been harrassed for years now - most of where we smoke is so restricted that enough is enough. If you don't like my fag smoke - then walk away - no one is tying or has superglued your feet to that spot if the wind is blowing it in your direction.

good for you on giving up - I should for health reasons but ach....... it's one of my few vices.

Perhaps I'll try prostitution when the fags have completely knacked my lungs and it's all I can do to lay down............ see - always have a back up plan !

That's like riding a motorbike on the pavement and telling pedestrians they can get out of the way if they don't want to be run over.

Well, not being on display doesn't seem to have decreased the uptake of other drugs. I've never see cocaine or heroin on display, or a prettily packaged bag of weed... and yet people still get into it.

Alcohol will need hiding too at this rate, although that will not stop the determined alcoholics because they will just go round to the pub or get booze off someone they know...

Great point, this.
