The BBC is to offer interactive coverage of Wimbledon, allowing viewers to choose which match to watch.

The BBC Sport app, which launched on connected TVs in April, will enable viewers to switch between live streams of the various games at any point, as well as select catch up clips from a package of highlights.

The app is available on Virgin Media TiVo, Sony products such as PS3 and Panasonic TVs.

Also for the first time viewers will be able to watch live action on mobiles and tablets, as well as clips, features and interviews.

Two full matches every day of the tournament will be offered on the iPlayer alongside BBC2 highlights programme Today At Wimbledon with John Inverdale.

The move continues the BBC’s multiplatform trials ahead of the Olympics, which start three weeks after the tennis tournament ends.

It comes on top of the BBC’s plans to once again broadcast the men’s and women’s finals in 3D free-to-air on the BBC HD channel. An estimated 18,000 people watched in the medium last year, although it received mixed reviews.

As well as coverage on BBC1, BBC1 HD, BBC2 and BBC HD, the corporation offers additional content through red button, Radio 5 Live and 5 Live Sports Extra will report from the tournament throughout the fortnight.

Sue Barker returns as lead presenter, alongside a team of top experts including John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Tim Henman, Lindsay Davenport, Pat Cash, John Lloyd, Greg Rusedski and Virginia Wade.

Satellite, cable and Freesat will offer up to four live streams of the event, while the BBC Sport website will carry up to six.

The 126th Wimbledon Championships run from 25 June to 8 July.
