Default Do family and friends do more harm than good?

Not just in the noms, but in general. When they start campaigning on Twitter and FB, or making forum accts on all the different BB or TV related sites. Has there ever been one instance of a family member improving a HM's image rather than inspiring people to dislike them more than they already did?

There's another site I'm a member of, and while BBUK is a very minor section of it, they discuss pretty much every English language reality show out there. Pretty consistently, any time a family member joins that site (for a participant on any show, whether it's BB or Real Housewives), which has much stricter moderation and conduct rules than this, it ends badly for them - most end up banned within a few weeks. That is true in part for any previous contestants who make an acct - some manage to be self-depreciating and willing to admit their flaws, but most end up making a complete ass of themselves and also end up banned after a short amount of time.

Would the HM's be better off if their family just kept it to themselves, at least in the one on one sense of Twitter/forums/etc?
