A reborn doll is a manufactured vinyl doll that has been transformed to resemble a human baby with as much realism as possible. The process of creating a reborn doll is referred to as reborning and the doll artists are referred to as reborners. Reborn dolls are also known as living dolls or unliving dolls.
Some consumers of reborn dolls use them to replace a child they once lost, or a child that has grown up. Others collect reborns as they would regular dolls. These dolls are usually taken seriously and are cared for like an infant. Critics debate whether reborn dolls are harmful, or whether these dolls can help in the grieving process and relaxation. Something I came across by total accident. Seems a little weird really. Thoughts? |

Why do they do it?
Why am I asking? Or why as in you don't understand? I don't understand and it's something I have never really seen before, so I suppose I am a bit ignorant to it. I understand that some people may find comfort in...sort of...replacing a lost child, but is it doing them any good in the long run? |

Slightly diversifying, but on the same subject, did anyone ever see the Guys & Dolls documentary a few years back?

They are clever creations and probably nice to collect as a hobby, but,CARING for something inanimate is just so weird, and pretty scarey if you walked in on one and wasn't aware it was a doll,I'm surprised they don't speak aswell!!!

I saw a programme on this a while back, and I found it quite disturbing, because they take the dolls out in the car in baby seats, and out in prams, and most of their husbands don't care for it but go along with it and indulge it. Is this really the right way for husbands to handle the situation? Surely they don't see it as being supportive? I don't think it helps in a grieving process either as it just prolongs it rather than facing up to a loss. Maybe I am wrong to think this way, but it all seems so wrong to me, and as others have said, a little creepy.
