The Team GB football team's first group match of London 2012 attracted a solid audience last night (Thursday), early overnight data shows.

Some 6.2m watched at the match's peak as Stuart Pearce's men - led by Ryan Giggs - draw 1-1 with Senegal at Old Trafford, after Craig Bellamy's early strike was cancelled out late on.

BBC One's full coverage, fronted by Gary Lineker, averaged 4.77m (24%) between 7pm and 10pm - a marked improvement on the squad's warm-up game last Friday.

Live coverage of the final stages of the Olympic torch relay secured 1.03m (9.6%) in the 5pm hour, while BBC Two's showing of the other games in the Men's Football interested 920k (9.7%) between 2.30pm and 7pm.

Meanwhile, ITV1's Olympics-themed Big Sports Quiz flopped opposite the football, logging just 1.73m (8%) from 9pm (+1: 174k/1%).

The Big Sports Quiz, hosted by Stephen Mulhern, was beaten by Obsessive Compulsive Hoarder: The Big Clear Out, which delivered 2.04m (9.5%) to Channel 4 (+1: 498k/2.8%).

The Olympics Opening Ceremony was watched by 27 million viewers in the UK at its peak last night, early reports suggest.

Britain's star-studded event, which featured appearances from Mr Bean and James Bond, shot to an astronomical high at 9.50pm on BBC One (26.9m) and in 3D on BBC HD (100k), Broadcast says.

Nearly 90% of the viewing audience stuck with the Ceremony as it reached its closing stages after midnight, signalling a record audience for that time of night.

Digital Spy's initial data from Attentional indicates that Danny Boyle's live spectacular averaged 23.02m (82.7%) between 9pm and 12.50am. The figures do not account for those who watched online, on Eurosport, Sky Sports or on big screens.

Overnight figures suggest that the Olympics Opening Ceremony may become one of the UK's most-watched broadcasts of all time when official BARB data is released in a week's time.

The Olympics countdown logged 10.08m (44.8%) on BBC One between 7pm and 9pm, while Olympic Breakfast had an impressive 1.71m (39%) between 6am and 9.15am.

Mark Cavendish's Team GB cycling road race was seen by a peak of over 5.7 million on Saturday afternoon (July 28), overnight figures suggest.

Gold medal favourite Cavendish, who finished in 29th place, attracted a share of 46.5% at 3.30pm as the race reached its closing stages.

BBC One's coverage, stretching from 1.15pm to 4.45pm, averaged 3.65m (32.1%). Archery followed from 5pm with 3.09m (20.5%).

From 7pm, the finals of the swimming events pulled in 6.31m (31.2%), peaking with 8.5m (41%) at 8.15pm - making it the most popular event of the day.

Gymnastics and sailing were also popular, as viewers flocked to BBC Three for more action. 879k (6.8%) watched between 2pm and 7pm, after which more swimming grabbed 905k (4.6%).

Morning rowing appealed to 3.36m (40.1%) between 9am and 11.30am, prior to which Olympics Breakfast scored a similarly impressive 1.62m (45.9%).

Interest in the fortunes of Team GB swimmer Rebecca Adlington was high last night (Sunday, July 29), early overnight data suggests.

Adlington's freestyle bronze drew a peak audience of 9.7m at 8.15pm, with BBC One's 7pm-10pm coverage averaging a strong 7.19m (29.5%).

Rowing got the day underway with 2.96m (34%) from 9am, then swimming had 3.73m (33.4%) between 11.30am and 1pm, and cycling raced off with 4.7m (31.9%) from 1.15pm until 5pm.

Olympics Breakfast pulled in 1.25m (38.2%) at 6am, while late-night roundup Olympics Tonight fetched 2.24m (17.1%) from 10.30pm.

Over on BBC Two, Sue Barker's eclectic presentation of tennis, boxing, archery and beach volleyball drew 2.25m (12.1%), the channel's joint best audience of the day. The Antiques Roadshow followed with the same rating, but an inferior share of 10%.

BBC Three's coverage of Team GB's 3-1 win over UAE scored 1.4m (6.1%) between 7pm and 11pm. 968k (5.8%) were viewing between 2pm and 9pm for gymnastics, archery and sailing, prior to which 620k (6%) watched beach volleyball, badminton and cycling.

Team GB's valiant attempt to win a medal in the synchronised diving was seen by at least 6.2m yesterday (Monday, July 30).

Tom Daley and Peter Waterfield, who topped the table after the first few dives, eventually finished in fourth place.

BBC One attracted an average audience of 3.82m (37.3%) between 1.45pm and 4pm, while the channel managed a peak share of 52%.

Then from 4pm, Britain's unexpected bronze in the mens' gymnastics was witnessed by 4.83m (35.1%), before 6.37m (27%) watched swimming from the Aquatics Centre.

Zara Phillips's involvement in the cross-country stage of the equestrian competition pulled in 1.7m (21.8%) between 11.45am and 1pm. Some 2.17m (32.1%) tuned in for rowing from 9am.

Olympic Breakfast (1.54m/39.4%) and Olympics Tonight (2.34m/20.8%) continued to pick up solid figures at 6am and 10.35pm respectively.

BBC Three's wall-to-wall coverage mustered a strong set of ratings, with 1.03m (7.7%) from 2pm and 1.15m (5.2%) between 7pm and 11pm.

More people watched the BBC's coverage online, with the corporation posting record figures for its website and iPlayer yesterday.

Michael Phelps's clinching of his 19th Olympic medal was seen by a peak audience of over 10 million (40%) last night (July 31).

The USA swimmer, who now has 15 golds to his name after winning the freestyle, pulled in 9.7m on BBC One and 470k on temporary digital channel BBC Olympics 1.

For the duration of the coverage between 7pm and 10pm, viewing never dipped below 5m, while BBC Three's screening of the Team GB women's football match against Brazil logged 1.45m (6.2%).

The final of the women's gymnastics attracted a hefty 4.79m (35.3%) to BBC One from 4pm, prior to which Zara Phillips's silver in the equestrian event interested 2.34m (24.9%) from 2pm.

Ben Ainslie's sailing blew 1.13m (8.7%) over to BBC Three between 2pm and 8pm, helping the channel to a new record all-day share of 6.6%.

Olympic Breakfast (1.57m/40.7%) and Olympics Tonight (2.19m/18.6%) continued to flourish in the early morning and late-night hours.

Sir Chris Hoy's fifth Olympic gold medal drew a peak audience of 8.2 million to BBC One and BBC Olympics 7 yesterday evening (August 2).

Hoy, Phillip Hines and Jason Kenny raced round the Veledrome track in a time of 42.6s, a new world record, scoring Team GB's first indoor cycling gold medal at the Games.

Earlier, Peter Wilson's tense double trap shooting final victory attracted an audience of 3.7 million (a 36% share) as he fired his way to glory with a score of 188.

Meanwhile, Team GB's Gemma Gibbons picked up an impressive audience of 4.7 million (40%) share when she picked up a silver medal in the -78kg judo final.

The BBC's evening coverage peaked with 9.3 million (including 279k on BBC Olympics 2) when Michael Phelps secured a gold medal for Team USA in the 200m individual medley.

This evening's highlights include Team GB's Jessica Ennis taking part in the 200m heats for her heptathlon and the men's shot put final.

Some 11.8m - approximately 50% of the viewing audience - were fixed to the running event involving the British duo of Jo Pavey and Julia Bleasdale at 10pm.

Despite setting new personal bests, Pavey and Bleasdale finished seventh and eighth respectively as Tirunesh Dibaba retained her title.

The figures, which combine BBC One and BBC Olympics HD, do not account for crowds watching in pubs and on big screens.

Rebecca Adlington's swimming bronze had a peak audience of 11.3m earlier on in the evening.

BBC One's evening coverage of Team GB's gold-medal rush pulled in an average of 12.22m (51.4%) between 6.50pm and 10.10pm.

Jessica Ennis's heptathlon win logged a high of 16.3m at 9pm, while Greg Rutherford's long jump victory grabbed 15.6m at 9.25pm.

The figures, which combine BBC One and BBC Olympics HD, do not account for crowds watching in pubs and on big screens.

BBC Three's rolling coverage managed a peak of 3.5m (32.8%) at 1pm, capping a record-breaking day for the digital channel.

BBC Three's all-day share of 7.9% was second only to BBC One, which averaged a huge 42.4%.

Sir Chris Hoy's record-breaking Olympic gold delivered a peak audience of over 10 million yesterday (Tuesday, August 7), the latest overnight data reveals.

The Scottish cyclist's sixth gold medal has made him the most successful Great British Olympian of all time, overtaking Sir Steve Redgrave.

A peak of 10.1m tuned in on BBC One and BBC Olympics 1 at around 6.30pm as Hoy drew closer to his victory at the Velodrome.

Interest in the Brownlee brothers attracted a high of 5.6m at 1pm, thought to be unprecedented figures in the UK for the sport of triathlon.

Despite there being no Team GB competitors, the men's 1500m final saw a peak of well over 11m at 9pm.

Olympics Breakfast (1.68m/41%) and Olympics Tonight (2.92m/25.3%) maintained big average audiences on BBC One.

The BBC's London 2012 coverage still peaked on Wednesday (August 8) with a resounding 11.3 million, despite the lack of Team GB hopefuls.

The men's 200m semi-final, which saw Usain Bolt stroll to a place in the final, attracted its highest audience at around 8.15pm.

More athletics dominated BBC One's schedule in the morning, logging 2.45m (36.3%) between 9am and 11.30am, and 3.04m (40.2%) from 11.30am until 1pm.

Interest then dipped to 2.37m (29.9%) from 1.45pm for a mixture of women's boxing and show jumping.

Olympics Breakfast (1.69m/42.8%) had over three times Daybreak's audience in the breakfast TV slot.

BBC Three peaked with 849k (9.1%) at 4.15pm for its programme which included hockey, table tennis and men's basketball.

Usain Bolt's historic 200m gold was seen by a peak audience of at least 13.7 million on Thursday night, the latest overnight data indicates.

BBC One's coverage scored a high of 13.73m (54%) at 9pm as Bolt became the first man to successfully defend the men's 100m and 200m Olympic sprint titles.

However, the figures do not count those tuning in on BBC Olympics 1, big screens or in pubs.

Bolt's race - in which he beat compatriot Yohan Blake - was easily the most popular event of Day 13 of London 2012.

Meanwhile, the first ever Olympic women's boxing finals were witnessed by an average of 3.93m (36.7%) between 4pm and 7pm, climbing to a high of 5m (36.7%) in the last 15 minutes.

Olympics Breakfast (1.56m/40.1%) and Olympics Tonight (3.45m/27.9%) continued to pick up solid ratings.

Friday's Olympics coverage peaked with an impressive 10.8 million viewers, early overnight data suggests.

Although down on most of the previous highs, the women's 1500m averaged over a 45% share of the viewing audience at 9pm.

BBC Three's ratings reached a peak of 1.16m (5.4%) at 10pm as viewers switched over from BBC One to catch Tom Daley's diving in the swimming preliminaries.

Olympics Breakfast (1.54m/39.7%) and Olympics Tonight (2.86m/23.6%) ended the week with high average audiences for BBC One.

The channel's daytime coverage could only reach a high of 4.25m (32.3%) at 5.45pm as commuters returned from work to see Russia win the women's synchronised swimming.

BBC One managed a colossal all-day share of 32.1%, while BBC Three held a decent 3.3%.

Tom Daley's Olympic bronze in diving gave BBC Three an enormous audience last night.

Daley's involvement in the 10m platform men's final attracted a high of over 6 million to BBC Three at 9.30pm, the channel's best peak of the Olympics.

When Daley switched to BBC One and BBC Olympics 1, the 18-year-old made an even bigger splash, with 15.9m watching him win a medal at 10pm.

Mo Farah capturing a second London 2012 gold, which prompted the runner to perform the 'Mo-bot', was seen by a peak of at least 12.4m at 7.45pm.

With Team GB extending their gold medal tally to 28, 3.78m (31.9%) caught up with all the action with Olympics Tonight from 10.35pm.

Olympics Breakfast, meanwhile, averaged 1.45m (43.3%) for a preview of the penultimate day's events.

BBC One dominated with an all-day share of 36.3% and a primetime share of 39.2%. BBC Three was second with 6.9% and 11.8% respectively - the first time the digital channel has ever beaten ITV to second place in the primetime league tables.

London 2012 made its final bow with an enormous peak audience of 26.2 million for last night's Closing Ceremony.

Some 22.94m - a share of 80.7% - were tuned in to BBC One alone between 9pm and 12.15am. An average of 202k (0.7%) watched on BBC Olympics 1.

Figures - that don't account for those watching in pubs and on outdoor big screens - didn't once drop below the 20m mark during the live event.

The 'Symphony of British Music' - which featured appearances from the likes of the Spice Girls, The Who, One Direction and Ray Davies - was nearly as popular as the 27m-scoring opening ceremony just over two weeks ago.

However, a closer look at Sunday's ratings also indicate that around a million viewers switched off during George Michael's set between 10.15pm and 10.30pm - denting the overall average.

Gary Lineker and Sue Barker's Closing Ceremony build-up attracted 12.3m (49.7%) from 7.30pm, meaning BBC One claimed a huge primetime win with 65.8% - the same share it garnered on the night of the Opening Ceremony.

But as the BBC celebrated, ITV suffered the worst ever day in its 57-year history - averaging just 673k (2.1%) for a two-hour repeat of A Touch of Frost from 9pm. Overall, ITV1 averaged a 3.9% (+1: 0.3%) share in primetime.

Setting a new all-time low for the third time in the series, the penultimate episode of Channel 5's Big Brother took 483k (1.5%), eclipsed by BBC Two's The Dark: Nature's Nighttime World (521k1/6%).

Once Upon a Time was 5's most-watched programme, impressively climbing to 1.01m (3.9%) for its latest episode - 'The Stranger' - in the 8pm hour.

Elsewhere, Thelma's Gypsy Girls held 722k (2.2%) and 150k (0.5%), as Channel 4 took a very low 2.2% (+1: 0.3%) peak time share.

Meanwhile on the multichannels, Ricky Gervais's appearance on Family Guy amused 518k (1.6%) at 10pm, and The Only Way Is Essex logged just 416k (1.3%) for ITV2 at 10pm (+1: 100k/0.4%).
