I don't know if they do this in the UK, but here in California, they actually give discounts to people who are obviously conserving electric and gas during the winter. I usually get a rebate of about 30-40 bucks for not cranking the thermostat. So not only do i save money off the actual bill, but then you get an addition discount for not using too much.

Personally i prefer just wearing layers of snuggly clothing and using blankets. I have friends that keep their apartments like a sauna and i hate it.
