A man who had his penis injected with olive oil has suffered the consequences.

The unnamed person in Bangkok, Thailand wanted to enlarge his penis, but the unproven method of using olive oil backfired when he ended up catching an infection.

The illegal procedure happened five years ago, but his penis was reportedly working fine until six months ago.

A wound on his penis quickly became infected, and although at first he put off going to the hospital, he eventually sought treatment only to be told by doctors that they had to remove the penis.

"He was ashamed to visit a doctor, but the pain and the infection grew so he had no choice," Police General Hospital doctor Surat Kittisup-porn told reporters.

A spokeswoman for the hospital, Sirikul Jiaranaikhajorn, said of the olive oil procedure: "It only brings bad results - people misunderstand [that it works].

"A woman will love a man not because of the size."

How on earth is injecting olive oil into your penis the same as getting breast implants? Though I will have you know I have no sympathy for those who have dodgy implants for cosmetic purposes and have to get them removed either.

If someone had filled their boobs with olive oil to make them bigger, and then had to have them off I would have said exactly the same thing
