Joseph Gordon-Levitt is reportedly being lined up to play Batman in Warner Bros's upcoming Justice League movie.

The Looper star, whose Dark Knight Rises character John Blake appeared to inherit the Batman mantle at the close of Christopher Nolan's blockbuster, is allegedly "solidifying" a deal to return as the superhero for 2015's Justice League.

According to HitFix, Gordon-Levitt and one other unnamed star from Nolan's Batman trilogy may appear in Justice League.

The site speculates that Henry Cavill's Man of Steel could feature in a cameo appearance from Gordon-Levitt's Batman. Zack Snyder hinted in a recent interview that his Superman reboot, which arrives next summer, may tie into Justice League.

If Gordon-Levitt appears as Batman in Justice League, it will mark the first time a big-screen Dark Knight's alter ego hasn't been Bruce Wayne.

Asked by Digital Spy in July if he'd be interested in returning to Batman, Gordon-Levitt replied: "I just love that [The Dark Knight Rises] has such a great ending.

"They make a lot of sequels, they call them trilogies sometimes. They're usually not really a trilogy, they're just another sequel. This trilogy is one - it has a beginning, a middle and this is a very satisfying end."

Joseph Gordon-Levitt will not star as Batman in the Justice League movie, it has been asserted.

Reps for the actor declared the rumour to be "entirely false" according to Entertainment Weekly.

It had been claimed that the Looper star had been lined up to play the Caped Crusader following his supporting role in The Dark Knight Rises.

Gordon-Levitt previously told Digital Spy that he liked the fact that Christopher Nolan's franchise offered a complete and enclosed trilogy with "a very satisfying end".
