As a reasonably advanced intelligent race of sentient beings we do not need to eat animals to stay alive. There are enough other foods to obtain a balanced diet. We therefore do not need to hunt animals for food and certainly not for pleasure.

Hunting gives the Gun suppliers an inexhaustible market and makes millions of Dollars. It offers legitimacy to the whole gun industry. I also think hunting with guns is an addictive pastime as is snuffing the life out of a defenceless animal.

The whole subject appalls me as does the number of animals bred for food. Need to stop this post now as I am getting angrier by the second just thinking about the fcuked up state of this planet...!!!

I don't disagree with raising animals for food. However, we do need more rigorously enforced laws for keeping and killing animals.

I agree with this although from a purist vegetarian standpoint I accept that I'm an absolute hypocrite because I still eat fish.

As harsh and silly as it sounds to a lot of members I'm sure there really is a degree of hypocrisy involved in being a meat eater who is opposed to animal hunting. Of course animal hunting for fun is far worse but ... well ... Nedusa is right. You absolutely do not have to eat meat to sustain a healthy human life.

Pleasure from hunting, pleasure from taste.

I am against hunting, cannot see any way where I could agree with it.

I forget who said it as to foxhunting but the saying was ''the unspeakable in pursuit of the uneatable''.

The killing of animals for food (as long as it's done in a humane way) is something I support. I don't necessarily like the thought of it though even though I am a meat eater, which is why I'm all for synthetic meat (the stuff that can be grown in a lab). I've heard about it a bunch of times before, and I really do think that'll be the end of the whole vegetarians vs meat-eaters debate when such a product is able to be mass-produced.

However, I don't think hunting of defenceless creatures is right. It's cruel, and to think that some people get a thrill out of killing a poor creature for no apparent reason is a bit sickening to me.

There is no hypocrisy. Throughout nature animals eat other animals, and we're on that ladder.

I would never intentionally kill anything. I even throw captured spiders/flies etc outside to set free. I'd happily cook and devour a bloody t-bone on a daily basis.

Don't agree with hunting for sport at all. Would feel really uncomfortable in the company of someone who did. The worst thing is they're almost boastful about it.

From a personal standpoint I think our higher consciousness and ability to make sense of the fact that we don't need to hunt and kill animals puts us outside the natural 'animals eat other animals' argument. As controversial as that may be. Animals instinctively hunt other animals out of necessity for survival and self preservation. We are a bit beyond that. We eat meat out of aesthetic preference for it's taste and texture. That's not the same.

Animals do a lot of things we don't do. Largely because we don't have to because of having developed alternate methods.

One of the major parts of our evolution was when we started to cook and eat meat. It played a massive part in the development and growth of our brains. It is ingrained in us over hundreds of thousands of years.

I do admire anyone that could be vegetarian, but I see no issue with eating meat and thinking hunting for sport is abhorrent. Animals eat what they eat, because they have evolved to eat those things, just like us.

Look at chimps today - they can live without eating meat, but they still kill and eat meat.
