Also let's not forget that other than the house costs and the prize money the regular series is rather cheap programming. They don't have to pay the people on it and there will never be a shortage of people wanting to go in, no matter how the ratings are.

BB is not a cheap programme to run.

They have to employ ALOT of staff to run the show and I believe last year they just about broke even on the civilian series when it came to profit.

It takes a lot of man hours to staff a show that runs every single day for 10 weeks.

Channel 5 admitted that BB had underperformed and that was with the launch' getting 2.7 and 2.9 million so the fact this only got 2.2 is not good.

The stigma doesn't help either. Most people who watch it, will not tell their family members they watch it. So you are talking about people in their room watching it on the TV or a stream online.

Simply because its the sort of TV they don't want to watch with their family. Its different with CBB because that is celebrities.

Oh that's upsetting. If it's not bringing them money then they should.

Just so we're clear then:

Big Brother is apparently one of Channel 5's most successful shows. The Celeb series especially pulls in some decent figures for the channel.

But...it also doesn't make them quite as much money as they predicted it would.

Which is going to be the decider?

Yes. They probably won't renew the contract for another BB for 2015. But, could continue with the CBB.

I said I wouldn't mind CBB running beyond 2010 because it still had life in it. It was short and sweet, didn't run too long. And it still attracts some decent names judging by the last few but putting it on twice a year and bringing back the main show only killed it further. It needed a good long rest.

If they'd have stuck to just one CBB for 4 weeks each Jan I reckon they could've got Davina on board too. lol. The big commitment to 3 series a year on a crappy channel like 5 probably scared her off.

They can't axe it in the middle of a season can they? I know they did it on the Arabian Big Brother, but i really don't think they would ever do that to BBUK.

If they were dead set on cancelling the show, they would have to play out BB15 in 2014 and then not renew their contract with Endemol. Just like Channel 4 did when they announced during BB10 that they wouldn't be renewing their contract and the final series in the 3-year deal they signed in 2007 would serve as the last for the network.

We'll have to wait and see what the average ratings are over the series. The renewal decision will also have a lot to do with the 2014 ratings.

From what everyone has said, they didn't advertise the launch very much. They can't be surprised by the low ratings so far. Maybe they gambled that they could save money on advertising and retain the hardcore audience throughout the season anyway.

I don't think so.

I would be devastated.

The Arab thing was totally different though it was due to religious beliefs etc ZzZzZzz

No I don't think so, the ratings are still pretty high for a C5 show.

The thing you have to look at is, if the show was still on Channel 4 these ratings would be TV suicide, however, the difference with Channel 5 is the ratings are well above the slot average for their shows.

I have a feeling ratings will keep steady or may even rise slightly over the new few days, but the ratings aren't good in the sense that they're the lowest they have ever been for a launch.

BUT upon saying that, it's not as though people have just zoned out and don't want to watch. Channel 5 brought this on themselves due to the lack of advertising. If they did more high profile advertising, I have absolutely no doubt that the show would have done better on Thursday and Friday.

So the show isn't ready for the Channel 5 waste bin just yet, Channel 5 brought a lot of it on themselves, which I why I have faith the figures will grow slightly.

The thing is this series aswell its got ALOT of press attention for some reason.

Even though ratings so far are down all major online newspapers are reporting on it extensively and its in the most read articles on every site.

Its press for Channel 5 at the end of the day which im sure they are happy with.

People might be talking about Channel 5, but how many people go back and watch shows on C5?

To be fair, I watch Channel 5 for Big Brother related programming and that's it, the channel gets switched as soon as it has finished... I can't say any of C5's programming interests me that much either.

So people may be talking about it, but how much has its overall audience increased (I actually don't know the figures) and how many people tune in for BB and that's that?

BB hasn't seemed to have made a massive impact share wise by the looks of it.

It really irritates me when the fabulous Big Brother is always talked about as a dated failure.

And yet that pile of junk on ITV1, I'm A Celebrity, is the biggest heap of trash on TV today. Without Ant and Dec and its prime time ITV1 slot, that show would die a death on any other channel.

Big Brother is far more superior and interesting. It should never die.

I saw on telly mix that the producers want it to go on for 50 years. The ambition is there but everything else isn't.
