Another interview she did in November 2005:
Makosi Musambasi, the nurse from High Wycombe who starred in Big Brother Six, has won her legal battle to stay in Britain. The 25-year-old had her working visa curtailed and faced deportation after she left her job as a cardiac nurse to appear on the Channel 4 reality show. The Home Office gave the former nurse notice to quit the UK in August since she was allowed to stay only as long as she worked as a nurse. On learning of her imminent deportation, Makosi, who came to Britain in 1998, made an asylum application which was rejected earlier this month. But now, the central London asylum and immigration tribunal have said that she is a refugee and does not have to go back to Zimbabwe. The tribunal ruled that she could face violent confrontation if she returns to her native Zimbabwe, following her lewd behaviour on Big Brother earlier this summer. And as a refugee, she can now stay in Britain for five years. Makosi, who came third in the show behind Anthony Hutton and Eugene Sully, told us all about the dispute and what she hopes to do now! You must be very pleased at being allowed to stay in Britain for another five years? Makosi: I am so thrilled I can stay for five years. What was the problem? Why were you going to be sent back to Zimbabwe? Makosi: They were going to send me back because initially I came over as a nurse and when I went into Big Brother, obviously that violated my work permit visa which was only meant for me to work as a nurse. I had considered Big Brother not as employment but as something recreational. I got in trouble for it and I have paid my price. Now I have been in court twice already, but I am very thrilled with the result. What were the arguments that were put forward in your favour then? Makosi: Well the arguments were that I was at risk by going back to Zimbabwe, I would be attacked and discriminated against because of the amount of publicity that was put upon my lesbian snog and so forth. There was more to it than just that, and I have four or five files at home that have all this important documentation that I haven't read through myself, but basically I was at risk of going back home and being attacked by people because some would say that I let the Zimbabweans down culturally. That was one of the things that was levelled at you. Have you got any regrets about it at all? Makosi: Well I do regret doing some things. I do regret the hot-tub, I would not do that again because it sent a very nasty message. Not only to Zimbabwean girls but to every girl out there who could just have unprotected sex, which could lead to so many diseases and I regret that. But I don't regret doing the show itself. I would do it again if I was given the opportunity. Did you go the full hog in the tub? Makosi: [Laughs] Oh my gosh, I thought by the 17th November I wouldn't have to be talking about that! So what are you going to do now? Makosi: I'm still a qualified nurse and I hope to work once or twice a week to maintain my registration and to keep me grounded. But hopefully avenues are open for presenting and show hosting. I would pursue that because now I really can do anything at any point. I can even do charity work. If any emergencies happen around the world, with me being a nurse I can actually go there and do hands on help, I can do a lot of things. We’re desperate for nurses, don’t waste your life being a presenter, go and be a nurse? Makosi: I'm a born nurse, I've been one for six years and if you had a heart attack trust me I could get you out of it! If there is hot tub handy?! Anyway good luck Makosi, it is good news for you! ^^ lol at the last part source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/threecounties/c..._feature.shtml Last edited by Gstar; 26-06-2013 at 01:32 PM. |
