Default Turning your laptop off to go to bed...

...and switching it back on 10 mins later.

Anybody else guilty of that?

I used to do that a couple of years ago, meant my laptop was always on charge and I think is the reason the laptop battery ****ed up so it always had to be on charge to work longer than 5 mins

So now Im pretty good and when the battery is full I take it straight off charge.

I don't even bother with the battery, so I've taken it out and put it safely in my drawer, not like I move anywhere anyway.

Nah once the battery is full it bypasses it and just supplys the laptop with power.
The laptop im on now has rarely had the adapter removed in 2 years and still shows as 96% capacity last time i tested it. I run it on battery occasionally only when i need to and it lasts nearly as long now as when it was new.
Running it on battery is what wears it down.
If you run your laptop on battery power every time ts full it will be pretty much naffed within 18 months to 2 years its better to keep it on charge as much as possible.

Lolno. I heard the opposite from actual tech guys. It's also why they remove the battery from laptops on display. Constant AC power can damage it.

I always put my laptop on hibernate instead of shutting down so whenever I put the power back on it already has everything loaded (for cases like this)

I would leave my Dell plugged into the mains all the time.

At the beginning of May, I turned it on to see overnight emails before work and it just beeped 7 times and did not boot up. Experts said that was a motherboard or processor fail. Some say Dell are notorious for that.

Also got from somewhere, am not sure where, that it could have been a power spike that fried it, and that it was vulnerable, because I left it plugged in to the mains all the time.

With this laptop I unplug the mains power lead when I shut down.

As for the original question, for quick email checks I use a smart phone, it's quicker and you don't start surfing again.
